The Paducah Coast Guard was founded on December 3, 1872 by the City of Paducah and the Kentucky State Department of Public Safety. The first Coast guard station was located in what is now the city limits. The Coast Guard has since grown to serve as a statewide law enforcement agency with jurisdiction over all of Kentucky and Tennessee. The coast guard provides coastal security, protection from piracy, and Search and Rescue services. The Paducah Coast Guard Station is one of three stations operated by the National Park Service in Paducah, Kentucky. It houses Museum restored relics from the early days of the Coast Guard when it was part of state government. These relics include watches, pistols, badges, uniform items and cannons used by the Coast Guard during its early years. The paducah coast guard museum also displays artifacts related to maritime history including anchors, boats and sea chests dating back to 1620 when Spanish vessels anchored off this site for trade with Native Americans. Paducah, Kentucky (population: 381), is a small town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 805 at the 2010 census. Paducah is located on the southern bank of the Ohio River and about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Cincinnati, Ohio. It is part of the Cincinnati–Muncie–Westerville metropolitan area. The first town in Marshall County was Paducah, which was founded by Israel Putnam in 1814 as a landing place for boats traveling down the river to Louisville and other points east. By 1800 Paducah had grown to over 2,000 people; it became an important port on the Ohio River for goods arriving from Illinois and Indiana. In 1825 Adam Smith built his family home here and later served as justice of the peace and judge of probate court. He was also one of four men who organized what would become Paducah's first political precinct in 1826-27. The community grew rapidly during this period; by 1830 there were 5 land grants totaling 100 acres (40 ha) issued to settlers within its borders. In 1840 Paducah had 4 churches with membership totals reaching 300 people each – more than any other community in Marshall County! By 1850 it had 12 stores and 60 houses; some 1,500 people lived hereabouts! Its growth continued through most of the 19th century; by 1880 it boasted 39 churches with membership totals up to 3,000 people each! paducah post office opened on November 9, 1881!!!!! Today's economy largely relies upon agriculture - crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat and cotton - as well as manufacturing operations such as carpentry and textiles. Paducah, Kentucky, is the most significant city in Paducah County and the county seat. The population was 20,027 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Cumberland River in central Kentucky and is bordered to the north by Louisville, to the east by Pike County, to the south by Clay County, and to the west by Russell County. The site of present-day Paducah was first settled as a trading post by French fur traders in 1765. The town began formal development as a settlement in 1819 when entrepreneur James Crayton donated land for its incorporation as a city. Paducah grew rapidly during America's antebellum period of growth and expansion. In 1849 it became an state capital; it remains one today. In 1970 Paducah merged with Jefferson City, Missouri to form Lewisburg-Paducah Combined Statistical Area (CSA). The combined population of Lewisburg-Paducah reached 55,692 in 2000. In 2007 Paducah lost its status as a CSA member due to budget cuts; however, it has since regained that designation through annexation of nearby towns such as Middletown and Easton. The history of Paducah can be traced back over 350 years to when French fur traders arrived here seeking trade opportunities in what is now Kentucky. When France withdrew from North America following American independence in 1783, these traders followed suit and established themselves at Fort Pitt on the Cumberland River where they continued their trade until 1800 when they moved their main base of operations upriver into what is now Indiana Territory (now Tennessee). During this time there were several small settlements along or near the Cumberland River including Fort Pitt which served primarily as trading posts for Native Americans who resided along both banks of that river.. After 1800 many settlers came looking for new land which would offer them access to mineral resources such as coal and saltpeter found near modern day Pittsburgh while also providing convenient transportation connections via riverside boats across open country from eastern Pennsylvania all the way down into Illinois territory (present day Ohio).. With increasing competition from other landownersseeking claims on these valuable resources during this time period numerous sites were surveyed but no permanent settlements resulted because lack of available financing precluded major projects from being developed until after Mexican cession brought about increased Ulysses S Grant Administration efforts towards opening up Texas During this time also many German immigrants relocated eastward seeking opportunity during difficult economic times although some managed eventuallyto establish successful businesses within burgeoning cities like Cincinnati
Paducah, Kentucky was founded in 1785 by James Robertson. The town came about due to the success of a land grant given to the family by General Edward Braddock. The grant allowed for the erection of a sawmill, gristmill and other small mills in what is now Paducah. In 1814, Paducah became an incorporated city with a population of over 1,500.
