Maga coffee was first brought to Newport, Kentucky in 1912 by entrepreneur and brewer Gustavus Adolphus Magnus. The coffee was grown on a small patch of land near the now defunct town of Maga. The coffee beans were roasted and ground at a small shop located in downtown Newport. The first commercial maga coffee shipment arrived in Newport on October 10, 1912. By 1914, the number of maga coffee retailers had increased from one to four. In 1916, maga coffee was featured as an ingredient in the recipe for Louisville Slugger baseballs. In 1922,maga coffee became available as a Diplomatic Coffee Service product throughout the United States. In 1948,maga coffee began selling its own brand of espresso drinks called "Maga Supreme". The company continued to produce espresso drinks until it went out of business in 1990. Today, maga coffee is still enjoyed by many people throughout Kentucky and parts of Tennessee because it is such a unique flavor that few other coffees can compare

Newport, Kentucky is a small town located in the eastern part of the state of Kentucky. The population was 2,612 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Ohio River and is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The first settlers to this area were Frenchmen who arrived in 1692. They named their new settlement after Saint Nicholas, an apostle who had been martyred in Rome. In 1782, groups of Scots-Irish immigrants also began arriving in what is now Newport. These newcomers renamed themselves "Kentuckians." Newport became a town on November 3, 1819 when it was organized as a county seat by James K. Polk from territory taken from Champaign County. At its peak, Newport had a population of about 362 people and was one of four towns in Jefferson County that formed the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company's initial section line between Louisville and Cincinnati. In 1827, when Lafayette Parish was created withinJefferson County, Newport became its parish seat; however, it continued to be called "Newport" until 1840 when it changed its name to "Lafayette". On February 24, 1851 during the American Civil War (the war for independence), skirmishes took place between Union troops and Confederate forces near Newport while General Jubal Early attempted to cross the Ohio River into Kentucky from Tennessee without surrendering his artillery or supplies intact overland bridges he had built over many miles of difficult terrain reaching downriver into Kentucky proper! The battle ended inconclusively with no blood spilled on either side but heavy losses for both sides including 1 general killed (Jubal Early), 8 officers and men wounded or missing; 6 cannon captured; 5 wagons destroyed; 100 head of cattle killed or scalped; 350 head of sheep killed or scalped--a total amount greater than any other battle fought in previous months! As late as 1917 there were still reports coming through from young boys living around Newport reporting seeing active military units engaged in field operations such as cavalry raids all along I-65 corridor just outside their neighborhoods adjacent to where they lived!--including some as close as two blocks away!--grandfathers would tell them about how General Ulysses S Grant's army passed through these areas during his march across America returning home following his famous speech at Ford’s Theatre that year
