Murray is located on the eastern edge of Clark County and has a total area of just over square miles. The town contains two small towns side by side (Logan and French Hill) as well as several farms and ranches that make up much of its rural landscape. The early history of Murray can be traced back to 1812 when Captain James Waddell and his family settled here after traveling from Illinois. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson arrived in Murray to campaign for president, becoming the first Ulysses S. Grant in Kentucky to serve in that capacity. After spending time at the nearby Indian settlement on Logan Fork, Mr. Waddell decided to name his new community after him – “Waddy’s Mill” – which he founded near present day French Hill). Murray experienced rapid growth during World War I due to its strategic location as an embarkation point for military supplies moving into and out of Europe. The war also helped spur development within the community with businesses such as a lumberyard and grocery store opening their doors soon afterwards; this led to increased employment opportunities for local residents across all sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, trade unions, social services and professional services. These binoculars were used extensively throughout World War I and II and are still being used today as gifts for special occasions by members of the Coast Guard community. In 1985, Commodore James L. Halliday presentedChief Petty Officer Ray Ewing with a ballpoint pen as a token of appreciation for his efforts aboard ship during Operation Neptune’s Spear that year off Guam Island. This gesture is still remembered by many members of the Coast Guard community today! In 1990, Commodore Rick Husband presented Chief Petty Officer Michael Sayers with an olive-drab amphibious assault vehicle as part of their ceremonial retirement ceremony at Naval Station Mayport. This type of vehicle is currently being used by American Marines in Iraqaffecting operations near Mosul city
