National Guard gifts have been a part of the history of Mayfield, Kentucky for over 100 years. The National Guard has played an important role in the community since its inception. The Guardsmen and women who serve our country are some of the most dedicated and patriotic citizens in this town. They provide security, assist with local events, and help keep our community running smoothly. The first national guard unit stationed in Mayfield was organized on October 3, 1885. At that time, there were only a few hundred men stationed throughout the United States. However, the National Guard did not disband until 1947 when it was merged into the U.S Army Reserve. It wasn’t until 1949 that all soldiers were mustered into military service by state governments instead of being enlisted into the army directly from civilian life (the draft had been postponed due to World War II). The initial members of the National Guard consisted of men from surrounding counties who volunteered to fight for their states in whatever way possible (usually militia or fife and drum). In 1907-08 there were also specific units designated as “border guards” which patrolled various points along Kentucky’s common border with Tennessee(then known as West Tennessee) under authority of then Governor Ratliff Welch (D-Mayfield). These patrols didn’t actually take place within Mayfield but rather outside it on adjacent farms or ranching properties line up behind present day US 61/Ky 65 east of town limits (now off I-65 just south of town limits). A similar program began in 1911 when troops from neighboring Cumberland County arrived at what is now Eastern Kentucky University campus onpresent day Winchester Road/US 60 west of town limits to provide security during school terms while dormitories were being built across town back then! This program continued through both World Wars I and II before finally ending after 1945 with Curley Wright becoming governor in 1951! After Curley Wright left office, Republican Congressman Forrest Dunlap took control and quickly put together a new police department which eventually became known as “The Mayfield Police Department”! After Dunlap left office another Democrat, John Fenton became governor in 1965 before leaving office to become assistant secretary at defense during Lyndon Johnson's presidency! Bobby Kennedy later appointed Fenton as MAYFIELD'S FIRST DISTRICT ATTORNEY!! When Fenton resigned his seat to run for Supervisor at age 70 years old he was succeeded by current MAYFIELD Mayor Jerry Cramer!!

According to the 2000 census, there were 1,631 people living in Mayfield when it incorporated as a town on November 3 of that year. The population increased to 1,811 by 2010. Residents of Mayfield are typically known for their apple orchards and white corn cribs which dot the landscape around town. The name may be derived from an early settler's daughter who called herself "Mae" because she liked to pick apples near her father's farm while he worked in his fields. The local paper mill closed operations in 1978 but some remnants remain including a small museum and a few buildings used for storage since then such as the old post office building which now houses a gas station/convenience store combination restaurant/cafeteria combo unique to this area.

The Guard has played a significant role in many conflicts, most notably during the American Revolution and World Wars I and II. In recent years, however, the Guard has come under attack from some members of Congress who argue that it should no longer be funded through taxes. This paper will explore how national guard gifts have evolved over time and what impact they may have had on the military and society at large. National guard gift history can be traced back to 1792 when militias were created to support America’s war against France. At its inception, the National Guard consisted of men from all walks of life- farmers, soldiers, sailors, clerks, teachers, etc. The Guardsmen did not serve specific dates or periods but rather through out America’s wars until 1865 when it was disbanded due to lack of funding. For many years thereafter, national guardsmen received little recognition apart from ceremonial events such as armories being closed on Armistice Day ( November 11th). However, this began to change with amendments made to the US Constitution in 1911 which recognized state militias as separate units within the military structure instead of just volunteers like national guardsmen were at that time. After World War II ended in 1945 both federal government forces (Army and Navy) and state militias were combined into one single force known as “the Pentagonized Army” which quickly proved inadequate for wartime fighting because there was too much overlap between different arms and services within DOD . In 1949 Congress passed an act recognizing state militias once again as separate units within DOD . This act provided funds for states to purchase armored vehicles and other equipment needed for their own militaries while also giving these militias more autonomy than previous incarnations allowed them . Militia gifts continued into modern times with individual soldiers/officers receiving small items or mementos from friends or family upon retirement ( e.g., service rifle buttons ). Mayfield, Kentucky is a small town in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It is located in Green County and has a population of about 2,500 residents. The name "Mayfield" is derived from the Shawnee word "mahalli". The first settlers to Mayfield were two brothers, James and John McConnell, who arrived in 1792. They built a log cabin on the present day site of Mayfield Village. James McConnell was killed by Indians while trying to trade goods with them and John McConnell took his place. The McConnells were among the first white men to settle in what became Green County, Kentucky. A post office was established at Mayfield by Drury Cocke in 1811, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1836. A schoolhouse was built near Mayfield Village around 1812-1813; it burned down but was rebuilt several times before being destroyed by fire in 1862. A store was also established at this time and continued operations until 1886 when it closed because of financial difficulties。 In 1814, David Ewing purchased 640 acres (2 km²) adjacent to what is now Mayfield Village for $8 per acre ($160 per km²). He named his new land "Ewing's Park." By 1840, he had developed what is now town into a thriving community with over 60 buildings including three churches and twenty-four stores.
Mayfield was founded by two men in 1799. The first settler, John Mayfield, arrived in Kentucky from Pennsylvania. He and his wife built a log cabin on the current location of the town. John's brother-in-law, James Brown, also came to Kentucky in 1799 and started a farm near present day Hillsboro. In 1801, Mayfield married Eliza Ann Pemberton and they began operation of the first gristmill in what is now Mayfield. They raised livestock and grew crops until 1813 when they moved their business to what is now downtown. That year, they also built a jail which still stands today. The townsfolk of Mayfield were so proud of their newly formed community that they decided to name it after General Andrew Jackson who had come to America during the American Revolution. Through hard work and determination, AndrewJackson ended up becoming one of America's most famous leaders. In 1829, he became president of the United States after being elected as an Independent candidate aturning around this time period into personal law under the Federal Constitution instead of through state legislatures like before. In 1860, when Abraham Lincoln was elected President on a platform supporting states' rights, many people in Mayfield quickly realized that he would not support them militarily if he were elected for office because he believed that national defense should be centralized under one government instead of individual states' control (See: "Andrew Johnson Presidency"). Consequently, many residents chose to leave town for fear that war with Mexico might break out if Lincoln were reelected due to their fears about national defense/centralization; however no such event happened during his four years in office despite some rumors to this effect).
