The Mayfield Coffee Company was the first coffee company in Kentucky. It was founded in 1875 by John Weldon and David Shriver. The coffee beans were roasted on a small farm in Mayfield, about 30 miles west of Louisville. The company grew rapidly and soon had its own roast shop, roasting coffee for both local businesses and other stores in the area. In 1902, the company merged with another local coffee firm, the Wellborn Coffee Company. This merger made Mayfield one of the largest coffee companies in Kentucky. However, due to World War I efforts to control production,Mayfield's output dwindled over time. In 1922, the company sold its assets to Wm. Denny & Sons Coffee Co., which continued operations under that name until 1975. Between 1875 and 1922, Mayfield Coffee produced more than 4 million pounds of roasted beans per year!

Mayfield is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Mayfield was James Hargrave in 1814. He and his family moved from Virginia to what is now Hardin County when it was created as a county from parts of Pickens and Breathitt Counties. Hargrave founded the town on his land which he named after himself, James Hargrave Mayfield. The first post office was established in 1826, and the name changed to Mayfield in 1877 because of an act of the Kentucky Legislature that changed the spelling of local settlements in order to promote racial purity. The community grew quickly due to its location near two major railroads and its easy access to education and jobs. In 1865, Mayfield became home to one of the earliest schools inHardin County when Drury Academy opened there. By 1870, most residents had moved away or been forced out by economic setbacks caused by transportation difficulties caused by Union Army efforts during Reconstruction. However, some later returned when new businesses were developed along Interstate 65 outside of town limits. In 1937, following passage of the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA), Mayfield saw rapid growth as many local businesses began producing products for sale nationwide through mail-order catalogs sent out from their stores throughout America This growth continued until World War II when production slowed due to wartime restrictions on American exports . Afterward, many local businesses closed as social service providers took over their functions; however some remain active today such as Old Hickory BBQ Company which produces barbecued chicken for sale online . Today's economy is based largely on services provided by government agencies such as probation departments , libraries , fire departments and ambulance services . There are also several small farming families located around town who produce corn canoes , peanuts , apples and other vegetables
Mayfield was founded in 1875 by John M. Mayfield and his wife, Sarah. The town is located in Magoffin County, Kentucky, about 29 miles north-northwest of Lexington. The population of Mayfield was 1,500 at the time of its founding. It grew slowly but steadily until it reached a peak of 4,000 in the early 1920s. By the late 1940s, however, the population had dwindled to around 1,100 and it has not since grown significantly. The town was named for General James Wilkinson mayfield who fought with distinction during the American Civil War. In 1870 Wilkinson was honorably discharged from service after being wounded at Gettysburg; he returned to civilian life and settled in Magoffin County where he began farming and trading goods with other farmers. He soon became interested in politics becoming a delegate to the state constitutional Convention which met in1875. There he helped write what is now known as the Magoffin Constitution which provided for suffrage for men over 21 years old and established educational institutions including a Normal School (now University of Kentucky). In 1892 Mayfield merchants formed an association to promote agricultural production which led to development of a market place within the town center; this market place remain active today known as "The Square". The first post office opened in 1892 and soon developed into one of central importance within Mayfield - serving as both catalyst for growth and check on village abuses such as vote buying among farmers themselves! Another milestone occurred when electric lights were introduced into town on October 15th 1907 by J G White & Son Electricians who installed two systems side by side - one facing Old Faithful Road/Mayfields square while another system faced US Route 52 near present day First National Bank building! This marked an important advance for towns across America as electrification made them more accessible - providing greater opportunities for people living outside large cities! All told during those years there were many accomplishments that helped make Mayfield something unique - including: establishment of schools (primarily girls), economic development through manufacturing businesses such as paper products manufacturers J G White & Sons Electricians Inc., hardware storekeeper A W Smith & Sons Hardware Company (later renamed Pemberton's Hardware), several churches (the original being dedicated in 1896), numerous civic organizations including Rotary Club (founded 1902) and John G White Museum Of Art (& Archives) open daily 9am-5pm
Mayfield was founded in 1820 by General James K. Polk and Colonel John Mayfield, two of the original settlers in what is now Mayfield. The town became a county seat in 1836 and was named for Judge Robert H. Mayfield, who served as the first sheriff of Kentucky from 1836 to 1840.
