In 1892, a rifle and ammunition store in Madisonville was the first to sell firearms by mail. The store continued to offer firearms through mail order for many years. In 1944, the store was sold to the gun company Smith & Wesson. At this time, the company changed its name to Smith & Wesson Corporation. From then on,Smith & Wesson Corporation offered handguns as well as rifles and shotguns through their sales channels. The company also created a line of hunting weapons called “The Model 2” which became popular in Kentucky and other parts of the US during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Because of its long history with firearms, Smith & Wesson Corporation is considered one of America’s top gunmakers. Their products are used by law enforcement officers across the United States and around the world. In particular, they are known for their revolvers (the most popular type of handgun), semi-automatic pistols (which are similar but more powerful than handguns), rifles, shotguns, airguns, muzzleloaders and reloading supplies.

Madisonville is a small town in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The name "Madisonville" is derived from James Madison and his family's home, "The Grove". Madisonville was founded in 1813 by Colonel John Moncrieffe and his brother-in-law, Dr. David Wilkinson. The community grew rapidly due to its location on the Ohio River between Louisville and Frankfort. By 1830, Madisonville had a school, post office, store, blacksmith shop, Methodist church and three houses of worship. In 1836, the first courthouse was built in Madisonville and it served as the center for justice until it burned down in 1868. The community continued to grow and by 1840 had an assay office (which later became the Kentucky Division of Revenue), two churches (one Baptist and one Methodist), a jail/prison (later absorbed into the present prison complex), a millinery store (now closed but still remembered as one of the most important businesses in Madisonville), four stores (two general stores and two clothiers) with a total population of 100 people; one tavern; two schools: one public school for children attending free ones provided by subscription while others were run by day or rented from other residents; two private schools: School No., also known as "The Grove" academy which educated boys for $3 per month; five brick homes erected along what is now Main Street between High Street (then called Indian Road)and Center Street where they still remain today; four Bourbon County families who lived on what are now First Avenue South between Lexington Pike West then called Broadway then renamed Main Street after their native county seat – all except Mrs. Gwyneth Pugh who resided on what is now Second Avenue South between Lexington Pike West then called Broadway then renamed Main Street after her native county seat – all but Mrs. Gwyneth Pugh who resided on what is now Second Avenue South between Lexington Pike West then called Broadway then renamed MainStreet after her native county seat In 1850–56 there were twelve farmers living in addition to six mechanics some working at various mills around town making up almost half of local employment followed soon thereafter by six teachers including female boarders at Female Academy before that building went up for sale in 1861 having been used as “Aunt Jemima’s” boarding house during prohibition days bringing additional revenue In 1860 arrivals began numbering more than departures averaging thirty each month with only 2% departing each month suggesting growth was steady not increasing much despite large influxes caused largely by opening new mines near town . Newspapers reported large increase following discovery lead mining westward led to increased demand for goods bought locally becoming major source of income however industry declined soon afterward causing many residents to leave for newer towns

Madisonville, Kentucky was founded by the Potters in 1784. The town was named for James Madison, an American delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The first store in Madisonville was built on the original site of today's courthouse. In 1820, the village had a population of about 350 people. By 1827, it had increased to 1,000 people and by 1830 had reached 2,000 people. during this time period many stores and businesses were built in Madisonville including Ladd & Cook lumberyards, Pemberton’s bakery and flour mill, Bates & Co foundry and blacksmith shop; all these establishments sustained large business operations for many years. In 1848-49 there was a severe famine in Kentucky that caused numerous families to sell their homes and move into other parts of Kentucky or away from Kentucky altogether. Many citizens turned out to help support those affected by the famine through donations or work opportunities within their own communities. During this time period also occurred what is known as “The Great Migration” which saw many Irish Americans move westward across the US Midwest to escape religious persecution back home in Ireland. This migration led to some strong social changes for those who embarked on it – more women started working outside the home than ever before while Irish men began working longer hours at lower wages than previous generations and became more visible among American society overall. With so much going on in Madisonville during this time period there are few major events that stand out prominently but there are some important moments that have shaped Madisonville culture over time: - In 1865 Union General Ulysses S Grant came through Jackson County on his way south towards Louisville after winning Battle of Perrysburg; he stopped at Madisonville for dinner with local dignitaries before continuing his journey northwards - On February 12th 1911 Governor Orby GlandonKentucky renamed Clay County after Majestic Aces pitcher Red Grifith (1903-1972) due to his contributions both as player/coach at Eastern Kentucky State Normal School (now Eastern Illinois University) where he graduated summa cum laude in 1923 followed by professional playing career with several teams including two stints with Louisville Colonels (now The Cardinals) including one season as manager); Grifith donated $500 towards school construction After its incorporation as a township in 1903, "Johnstown" played host annually throughout World War I until 1919 when hostilities ended without anyBattlefield engagements taking place within its borders
Madisonville was founded by a group of Kentucky farmers in 1825. The original town was named after James Madison, the first U.S. president and one of the founders of the United States. The town grew rapidly and soon became an important center for trade and commerce in early Kentucky. In 1859, Madisonville was renamed Louisville after the city's then-Mayor John S. Young. It wasn't until 1881 that Louisville's main business district, called "The Loop" developed around Madisonville proper, extending out to include several other villages and farms surrounding it. In 1911, Louisville merged with Jefferson County to form Jefferson County, Kentucky (now part of Louisville). After years of growth and development, Madisonville experienced a dramatic decline in population during the 1930s due to World War II shortages of foodstuffs and housing materials. However, as economic conditions improved in the postwar period,Madisonville regained some of its former prosperity thanks to its location within easy reach of major metropolitan areas such as Cincinnati and Indianapolis. Today, Madisonville is a thriving community with active businesses and well-preserved historic landmarks
