The United States Coast Guard was founded on 14 May 1790 by Captain John Smith as an aerial patrol to keep watch over the Atlantic seaboard. The first Coast Guard station was at Portsmouth, New Hampshire. From its inception, the Coast Guard had a mandate to protect America’s shipping lanes and coastline. In 1891, the Coast Guard acquired its present name when it became part of the Department of Homeland Security. Today, the Coast Guard provides law enforcement and security for America’s ports and waterways, conducts search and rescue missions in high-risk areas, responds to nuclear accidents or emergencies, investigates hate crimes and other criminal activity on American soil, maintains a fleet of more than 350 vessels that can serve as response boats or helicopters in any weather conditions. In Lyndon County there are five coast guard stations: one located at Sayreville; two located at Middletown; one located at Freeport; one located at Randolph; and three stationed along US 41 near Georgetown. In addition to these stations there are also four helicopter pads which houses single or twin engine helicopters used for Search And Rescue operations as well as providing medical assistance during natural disasters such as hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The purpose of the auxiliary is to provide support to the coast guard by performing tasks such as providing manpower and equipment for missions, providing information and assistance during emergencies, and providing financial support.
Lonnie Johnson was born in the town of Monaca, New Jersey on November 12, 1908. He attended local high school and then studied at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a law degree in 1935. Afterward, Johnson worked as an attorney and congressman from Texas before becoming a U.S. senator from San Antonio in 1963. As president of the United States from 1969-1981, Johnson encouraged economic growth and social justice while creating one of the most durable presidential administrations in history. In 1964 Johnson became the first U.S. president to be impeached for perjury after lying about his role in House Select Committee on Un-American Activities (HSCUA). The following year he was acquitted by a Senate committee but lost re-election to Richard Nixon that year by only 3% of the vote despite carrying Texas by wide margins. He died on February 6, 1988

In 1942 he became a member of the United States House of Representatives from Texas. That year he married Lady Bird Johnson and they moved to Washington D.C., where LBJ began his political career as a congressman from then-Texas' Third Congressional District. He served two terms before running for president in 1960. LBJ's inaugural address as 44th President of the United States was one of the most famous ever given, and it helped him win re-election four years later. During his time as president he made significant changes to American society, including creating Medicare and Medicaid, bringing about Significant transformations in U.S.-Soviet relations, placing limits on immigration (including banning many Asian immigrants), fighting against organized crime (such as establishing The War On Drugs), and making major strides towards racial integration within America's borders. LBJ is also considered one of history's most qualified leaders for the roleofPresident because he had both experience as an officeholder and gubernatorial governor in addition to his professional legal education and presidential experience
Lyndon was named for Ulysses S. Grant, the 20th president of the United States. The town was founded in 1851 and grew quickly due to its location on the Ohio River. It became a major railroad center and had a population of over 100,000 by 1860. In 1876, it became the capital of Kentucky and remained so until 1959.
