The United States Air Force is one of the most powerful militaries in the world. With over 8,000 active duty members and 2,000 reserve members, the USAF is capable of acting as a global security provider. ACC would be headquartered at Offutt AFB in Omaha Nebraska with subordinate commands located at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton Ohio; Offutt AFB; Goldsboro NC; Dyess AFB TX; Shaw AFB South Carolina; Tinker AFB OK; Griffiss AFB NY and Cannon AB NM. On January 1st 1970 Air Combat Command replaced Tactical Air Command (TAC) as Unified Combatant Commands' primaryAir Armada Component Commander In late 1971 Major General Curtis LeMay organized Aerospace Defense Command (AAD) into four major areas: Missile Defense Agency - manage missile defense systems on behalf of DOD mainframes worldwide Launch Control Center - provide launch control functions for nuclear weapons delivery platforms from Vandenberg AFB Santa Barbara County CA - Space Task Group provides space situational awareness through Earth observation satellites SAC flew 1 million missions without loss during that time
