Lawrenceburg is a city in KENTUCKY, United States. The population was 8,569 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hardin County and home to The Lawrenceburg Museum. The first settler in what would become Lawrenceburg was James Armstrong who arrived in 1797. He named his new land "Lawrenceburg" after his friend and neighbor, Lord Baltimore. By 1820, most of the town had been founded with only a few homes left unoccupied by settlers because of the harsh winter conditions. A post office called "Lauderdaleville" was established in 1824 and remained in operation until it closed on December 25, 1865. In 1827, General Harrison purchased 640 acres (248 ha) of land between Licking River and Bluegrass Creek from David Ralston for $2,500 cash. This area became known as Harrison's Landing which later became part of Lawrenceburg proper. In 1830, John Hinton built a small cabin on this property which he referred to as his home until 1840 when he donated it to the Methodist Episcopal Church for use as their religious schoolhouse. When that church burned down in 1851, its building was used as the first courthouse in Hardin County until it burned down in 1907; then it served as an old jail before being converted into a library/museum complex during 2006-2010 renovation project spearheaded by Mayor Donny Treadway and City Councilman Jerry Krieger Jr.. During World War II many residents worked at local munitions plants such as The Pabst Brewing Company plant located just east of town limits along Big Sandy Creek from 1942-1945; other jobs included construction work on nearby war memorials such as Fort Knox Road near present day Airport Parkway west of town limits during 1944-1945; shipbuilding at Kentucky Naval Shipyard starting early 1945; and manufacturing at Wernher von Braun’s plant northeast of town limits from 1945-1947 producing V-2 rockets while also employing over 60% female workers outside the family home where they cooked meals for their husbands & children while working long hours under difficult circumstances

Lawrenceburg, Kentucky is a town in Bourbon County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 12,532 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bourbon County and part of the Lexington metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1814 by General Davidlocke Wilkinson and named for his home in Lawrenceburg, Virginia. The first settlers were men from northern Virginia who had come to western Kentucky looking for land to farm. In 1819, Wilkinson donated land east of the mouth of the Licking River to establish what would become Lawrenceburg. He also donated a small amount of land on both sides of the river to create what would become Eminence Cemetery. In 1825, Wilkinson became president of the First National Bank in Louisville and moved his family to Lawrenceburg permanently. The bank remained in business until it merged with another bank in 1935. In 1840, General James Fenton organized a military unit called "The Western Reserve Regiment" which served against Native American forces during the Mexican-American War. On November 11th that year, General Fenton's regiment attacked a Native American village near what is now downtown Lawrenceburg while under orders from Ulysses S Grant III (1823–1885). The attack failed and no one was killed or wounded; however, three buildings were destroyed and four homes were burned out by retreating Native Americans as retribution for this incident. In 1865, Confederate general Braxton Bragg made camp within miles of where Lawrenceburg now stands while planning an assault on Union positions along Cumberland Gap Road near present-day Louisville Junction. Union troops encountering Confederate forces nearpresent-dayLawrenceburgh heard loud cries coming from a deep ravine just beyond their line of sight; upon investigating they found Confederates burning human flesh after looting supplies at an ammunition depot situated just inside their lines! This event became known as "the Slaughtering Ground". After being ordered not to fire on retreating Confederate troops because he feared civilian casualties among his own men, Bragg instead targeted women and children fleeing battlefronts - many died as result! For this atrocity he was court-martialed and sentenced to death but before execution could be carried out he committed suicide with his hand grenade instead...this act has been cited as oneof history's most cowardly executions! The town experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century, thanks to its position as an entrepot for goods travelling between Louisville and Nashville. In 1907, Lawrenceburg merged with nearby Paducah to form Paducah-Lawrenceburg City.
