Jeffersontown was once a part of the larger town of Bardstown, Kentucky. It is now a small village located in Johnson County, Kentucky. The community was founded in 1827 by Samuel Jeffers and others who left Bardstown to come to this area. The present-day Jeffersontown was named for him. The first coffee house in Jeffersontown was called the General Store and it opened in 1828. It served as a stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1852, two years after the founding of Bardstown, Jeffersontown had its own post office. The original building still stands and is used as an historical museum today. The first coffeepot in Jeffersontown was built in 1857 by Johnnie Pugh. It served as the homebrewing center for many early settlers in the community. By 1870, there were at least five coffeepots operating in Jeffersontown. In 1865, Jethro Grimes opened his grocery store on Main Street inJeffersontown. He became one of America's most successful grocery stores during this time period because he stocked high-quality produce and goods that appealed to local residents as well as tourists from around the country who came to visit Bardstown or Johnson County during these years (although tourism did not become prevalent until much later). Grimes also developed a wide following among local farmers because he offered them excellent prices for their produce and services overall (a practice that continues to this day). In addition, Grimes donated land withinJeffersontonforthe construction of several town streets which are still extant today: Fourth Street, Fifth Street, SixthStreetand First Street.(All Streets That Are Named After People Who Lived In And Moved Out Of The Village Became Businesses Owned By Other Residents Or Were Turned Over To The Town.)
Jeffersontown is a small, rural town in the U.S. state of Kentucky, located on the Cumberland River. As of the 2010 census, its population was 4,890. The name "Jeffersontown" is derived from Andrew Jefferys and his family's settlement on what is now the east side of town from 1792 to 1800, during the early years of the United States westward expansion. The history of Jeffersontown can be traced back to 1792 when Andrew Jefferys settled on what is now east side of town from near where he lived with his father and brother-in-law John & Eliza Harmon from Scotland. In that year, George Washington was inaugurated as President and America's first capital was established at Philadelphia. The Harmony clan kept their home in Jeffersontown until 1802 when they sold it to James Kenedy for $5 per acre (1/3 acre = $100). In 1803, Jefferson County was created within Virginia and James Kenedy became its first county sheriff (similar to today's sheriff). In 1810, Kenedy bought land along the Cumberland River adjacent to present day Jeffersontown for $20 per acre (2/3 acre = $300). He began construction on a log courthouse which opened in 1812 and still stands today as one of the most significant features of downtown Jeffersonton

French troops under Napoleon Bonaparte conquered Spain and Portugal during his successful campaign against Austria in 1808-09; while at some point during his rule espresso may have also been used as an intoxicating drink. With increasing trade with China, Japan, Russia, Persia, India and other countries along the East Coast of North America, coffee production increasingly came ashore to supply these burgeoning markets. As global trade expanded and transportation improved during the 19th century, more people began travelling abroad to experience new cultures—including those who drank coffee—and thus brought back their taste for this unusual beverage with them back home. Jeffersontown was a small village in Stephenson County, Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1814 by Joshua Jeffers and his wife Rachel. The village grew to be a major settlement on the Cumberland River near where it now stands. In 1828, Jeffersontown became the seat of Stephenson County. When the American Civil War began, many people inJeffersontown sided with the Union side. Some of these people decided to move to Louisville and form what is now known as Jefferson Parish. Others lived through the war and their homes were burned or destroyed by Confederate forces while they still remained in Stephenson County. After the war, most of Jeffersontown's residents returned to their former routines and lifestyles until around 1880 when some new settlers arrived who started raising cattle and producing goods such as cheese and flour for local merchants. By 1910, all but a few buildings had been abandoned or demolished; however, one significant structure remaining is an old schoolhouse which was used as a military hospital during World War I.
