The United States Navy has been deployed in support of our nation for centuries, and the tradition of giving gift baskets to sailors and marines during deployments continues today. The Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps (NROTC) also sends their members on deployments with Naval Special Warfare Units (NNS). These units are known as Task Force 121 which is currently stationed in Kuwait. They will be deploying soon and we wanted to give them some gifts to make their deployment a little easier. Task Force 121's Commander, Rear Admiral Mark W. Hurlbut, presented an exclusive gift basket to Jeffersontown Elementary School students on December 1st. This was a thank you basket for all the hard work that they have done over the last few months leading up to their deployment. It included items like snacks, bottled water, candy bars, and cigarettes! We couldn't have asked for any better gifts!

In 1943, Naval Station Jeffersontown became an ammunition depot after Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbour. It remained an Ammunition Depot until 1971 when it became a naval base. Jeffersontown is a town in Kanawha County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Jeffersontown is the only town in Kanawha County. It was founded in 1812 by American Revolutionary War Lieutenant Colonel John Jeffers and his wife Deborah Saunders. Jeffersontown is located on the Ohio River just upstream of its confluence with the river's tributary the Monongahela River. The town lies on the eastern edge of what once was a large coal-mining area which now consists of small farms and homes. Jeffersontown is about south of Greenbrier, West Virginia and east of Coal City, Pennsylvania. The first settler in Jeffersontown was John Jefferse who arrived in 1812 as part of General James Knox's army during the American Revolution. He erected a cabin near present day Main Street and built another cabin downstream on Beaver Dam Creek to serve as both a home and storeroom for his goods while he awaited supplies from Philadelphia that would help lead his army against British forces at Saratoga Springs, New York. In 1814, when LtCol John Jefferse died after being wounded at Saratoga Springs, Deborah Saunders took over leadership of the community and continued to operate her store until she sold it to Samuel Henshaw in 1825. By this time most people had left for better times due to economic reasons; however several families remain active today within the local community including: Jody White (founder/operator), Donna Smith (owner/manager/director), Bettye Swindle (founder/operator) & her husband Tom Swindle III (president). In 1957 Rev Donnie Kroughman started an all-day religious school which still operates today as Bluegrass Bible College which offers educational opportunities for students ranging from kindergarten through college degrees! Today much like then many residents can be found working their land or playing important roles within their local communities whether it be providing support services such as firefighting or law enforcement; either way these individuals are always willing to lend a listening ear and lend assistance when needed!
