Additionally, shipbuilders like John Brown & Co., Scotstoun Shipbuilding Company Ltd., Forth Ports Company Limited (Forth Ports being on Loch Lomond) and Clydebank Dockyard built vessels used by both British naval forces and American merchant shipping alike during this era. These companies are collectively known as "Glasgow Shipbuilders." During World War I (1914-1918), Glasgow saw its share of combat activity including air raids on residential areas across the city on multiple occasions. However, it was not until 1922 that Glasgow finally attained its own air force base – RAF Prestwick – which played a key role in supporting Allied operations during World War II (1939-1945). Throughout World War I et al., RAF Prestwick housed bombers including Lancaster aircraft used for strategic bombing; however, it was only after WWII that jets started appearing in Globe airspace! Glasgow, Kentucky is a town in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Glasgow is located on the Cumberland River and is the county seat of Johnson County. The area that now makes up Glasgow was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the 18th century. In 1785, James Robertson founded a small community called Kilmarnock on the banks of the Cumberland River. That same year, he sold his share of the settlement to John Reid for $10. From Kilmarnock, Robertson developed what would become Glasgow into a thriving commercial center with mills and warehouses. In 1802, Alexander Henderson purchased Robertsons land and developed it into what became Hendersonville. Hendersonville quickly became an important transportation hub due to its location on the river and its access to shipping lanes. In addition to its role as a business center, Hendersonville also served as a bedroom community for Johnston County's large rural population. In 1815, after years of development work had failed to bring success to Hendersonville, local residents bought out their partners and formed their own company called "Johnson & Company". The new company prospered until it went bankrupt in 1827. Shortly thereafter, local citizens again formed their own company - this time under the name "Glasgow Improvement Company" - which built new roads and bridges throughout Glasgow over the Cumberland River and established an agricultural society that grew corn and cotton crops from scratch. The company finally successful operated until it went bankrupt in 1830 due to financial problems caused by increasing competition from other businesses in Glasgow

The name "Glasgow" referred to a nearby peak called "Mount Holyoke," which was still visible from downtown after surveyors' surveys made during the late eighteenth century determined that no more high mountain peaks were left within Scottish boundaries. The first permanent settler families arrived around 1800 and soon began banana farming and other agricultural pursuits; however, it wasn't until 1826 when James Gibson organized what became known as the Gibson Banking Company which became one of America's most successful banking institutions at that time. In 1857–1858 Lieut.-Governor Edward Higginson approved plans for an important new public works project – construction of two new large jails to house prisoners awaiting trial or serving time for minor crimes such as vagrancy or larceny – one on each side of Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets near present day University Avenue; these jails were completed less than three years later on October 1, 1859 under then-Governor Andrew Johnson following recommendations from then-Commissioner Richard Mardon who supervised both jail projects as part of his sweeping New Orleans social program known as laissez fairevironnement (the policy that allowed white people free access to all areas except dense Negro neighborhoods).
