The Glasgow, Kentucky Army National Guard unit deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2001. The gift history of the unit begins with its activation on October 16, 1951. The regiment was activated at Fort Knox, KY and served as a reserve unit until it was mobilized for service during the Vietnam War. In 1971, the Glasgow, Kentucky Army National Guard detachment participated in the Eagle's Nest invasion of Cambodia. After the Invasion, the regiment served as a provisional guard force until it was re-activated for duty during Operation Desert Storm on January 17th 1991. The regiment then served as part of Task Force Dagger until it withdrew from Iraq on September 9th 1991. From 1992 to 1996, the regiment served as an infantry brigade training battalion within 1st Brigade Combat Team 3rd Infantry Division (Airborne), stationed at Fort Hood Texas. In 1998, 1st Brigade Combat Team 3rd Infantry Division (Airborne) moved from Fort Hood to Camp Lejeune North Carolina and became element of 2nd Infantry Division; however elements remained at Fort Lee Virginiauntil 2002 when they were demobilized due to budget cuts. After being inactive for nearly 20 years, elements of the Glasgow Army National Guard detachment activated again on July 15th 2006 and began serving with 4th Brigade Combat Team XXVIII Light Infantry Regiment located at home baseCamp Campbell Kentucky under command Major General John A Sullivan III who commanded XVIII Airborne Corps which included units from Georgia Air National Guard and Florida State Troopers also deploying to Afghanistan providing security along with airborne assets including CH-47 Chinooks

The Glasgow, Kentucky Army Garrison was established in December 1861. It is one of the earliest and most lasting military installations in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Garrison's history can be traced back to December 1861 when a detachment of the Second Regiment, United States Infantry was dispatched from Louisville, Kentucky to help garrison Fort Donelson on the Cumberland River. The Garrison became an integral part of the Confederate army during the American Civil War. In 1865, after Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, the Glasgow garrison helped evacuate Confederate prisoners and dead to nearbyFort Fisher. In 1881, following Union victory in the Harrison County Rebellion, Aiken County officials voted not to recognize Charleston as their county seat and instead chose Glasgow as their new county seat. The decision caused much tension within Glasgow's community and its military detachment continued operating out of Glasgow until 1892 when it relocated to Morehead City, North Carolina. Today there are no active military units stationed in Glasgow but portions of its brick-and-mortar infrastructure remain intact including a library and museum which explore aspects of its military history and culture.

Glasgow, Kentucky is a town in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1827 by Scots-Irish immigrants and named for Glasgow, Scotland. Glasgow is part of the Louisville–Jefferson City metropolitan area. The first settlers were Presbyterian missionaries from Scotland who came to work on a plantation near what is now downtown Louisville. They called their settlement "Glasgow," after the capital of Scotland. In 1830, it was renamed "Bentonville" because its founder, Colonel James Benton IV., had bought land therefrom. In 1851, Glasgow became an incorporated village when it was added to Johnson County. The village got its name from the fact that all of its citizens were Scottish Presbyterians whoowned most of the land in the area at that time. In 1857, Glasgow's post office opened and soon became one of the fastest growing towns in Johnson County with over 1,000 residents! By 1865 it had become an independent city and continued to grow until 1970 when it merged with neighboring Jefferson City to form Jeffco Metropolitan Statistical Area!
