Georgetown is a town in Perry County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Louisville metropolitan area since the late 1990s. Georgetown was founded by parents of British immigrants, who named their new community after King George Washington's Mount Vernon estate in Virginia. Georgetown is located on the Cumberland River and is bordered by Christian County to the south and east, Perry County to the north, and Frankfort to the west. The first settlers were Englishmen who arrived in 1775 as refugees from America's Revolutionary War-era battles along the frontier of what would become Kentucky. They built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the river and named it "George Washington." Over time, others followed suit: William Clark Settled in 1786; James Patton Settled in 1800; John Pickens Settled in 1802; Daniel Boone In 1803; Andrew Jackson In 1824/25; Jesse Benton In 1830/31; again Andrew Jackson In 1836/37 (the last two were both Indian Chiefs). By 1840, Georgetown had become an agricultural town with six stores and 100 head of livestock. However, when Logstown Falls began flipping over during heavy rains on April 24th of that year – flooding that destroyed much property before even reaching Georgetown – residents took refuge inside their homes until relieved by deputies dispatched from nearby Frankfort just before dawn on April 25th. By 1861, only one store remained open while all other businesses closedtered due to troops quartered there for Confederate service during The American Civil War (1861-1865). With no food or water available within town limits – most residents had to go off-grid – many people turned to raiding neighboring farms for supplies which led to some high numbers of fatalities among local citizens as well as Confederate soldiers camped near town for days at a time without ever attacking anything because they knew food would be abundant closer at home. One resident noted "We engaged twelve men today night but got not one shot into us" while another reported "It rained so hard we didn't get any victuals from our own gardens this morning." After Union troops liberated Georgetown following General Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 – less than two weeks afterLee surrendered his army against Ulysses S Grant's terms - many residents returned home including several hundred women accompanying Union Colonel Edward Horman who distributed food parcels through doorways throughout Lexington about three miles away from Georgetown! The end result was an almost total loss for Confederate forces when compared to Union casualties suffered during that same conflict including more than 2200 killed outlander forces with 8000 wounded or missing! In 1870–71, business revived somewhat with construction beginning on what would later be called “The University” which included dormitories for male students plus classrooms and research laboratories for female students soon after opening his doors . This growth continued until 1902 when downtown became too busy for students and faculty combined and college moved uptown into new buildings now known as The First National Bank Building & Tower’s Square section…Georgetown fell victim once again to suburbanization beginning around 1960 with opposition from downtown business interests which saw replacement jobs coming downriver making way instead for warehouse complexes housing factory workers earning $7 per hour + benefits while lack of parking spaces spelled doom for many small businesses owners lining up along Market Street hoping against hope they could make something out of nothing cashing city permits …and then you have current developments such as Toys R Us taking over Battery Park Place across Main Street
