The Georgetown, Kentucky National Guard was founded on December 4, 1921 when the Kentucky National Guard and the French Air Force joined forces. The original unit consisted of 153 men and grew to 1,000 by 1931. The unit was disbanded in 1945 due to budgetary cuts. In 1951, the Georgetown National Guard was reactivated under the Duncan White flying signal intelligence program as a reserve unit. It initially consisted of 100 men but grew to 300 by 1957. The unit served in Vietnam from 1965-1968. In 1987, the Georgetown National Guard merged with the Louisville City Police Department’s Military Reserve Unit #419 to become one unified force. Today, the Georgetown National Guard is responsible for providing guard duty throughout central Kentucky and support services including search and rescue operations, law enforcement activities, military exercises, parades and other events. Additionally, they provide service within State government buildings as well as local communities across central Kentucky.

The guard continued to be a part of the state government until 1907, when it became an independent organization. In 1916, the Kentucky National Guard was redesignated as the Kentucky Army National Guard and it continued to serve as an arm of the state government until 1965.
Georgetown, Kentucky is a small town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 711 at the 2010 census. Georgetown is home to the Georgetown Community College and the Georgetown-Fulton Volunteer Fire Department. The first settlers in Georgetown were farmers who arrived in 1801. The town was named for Gilbert Devereaux, 1st Baron Devereaux of Arlington, Virginia. In 1825, John James Audubon visited the area and named it after his friend and patron, George Washington Irving. The town's growth came from its location on a branch of the Little Tennessee River between Clarksville and Maysville. In 1853, a post office was established in Georgetown with J.D. Payne as the first postmaster. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell led an attack against Union forces near Georgetown while they were marching to help put down a civil uprising in Jackson County; this event is known as Battle of White Mountain (or Battle of Drewry Ford). When American troops liberated Louisville on April 9th 1945 following World War II, they burned many of the buildings in downtown including those that housed Georgetown's post office and courthouse which had been built by Colonel John Gist during his time as Postmaster General for Louisville until he resigned under pressure from Mayor Tom Collins late that year after multiple scandals involving graft within his department In 1946 local physician Drs Lewis Wray and Jesse James Henson founded what would become Eastern Kentucky University which moved into its current building on Main Street just north of Fourth Street in 1951 From 1948 until 1984 it was also home to Bard College before moving back to Bardstown later that decade . The concurrent opening of Eastman Kodak Company's Louisville plant gave new life to downtown streets such as Third Street between Lexington Avenue and Scott Road with renovation work beginning on Mulberry Street east of Fifth Street which ran next door to their plant until 1967 when they vacated their building at Sixth and Elm Streets due primarily to air pollution concerns although some photosensitive films still being developed there today
