Roosevelt, and Lyndon Johnson as well as many other luminaries in Kentucky politics and life.
Georgetown is a small town in Marshall County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 793 at the 2010 census. Georgetown is part of the Louisville-Jefferson County, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Georgetown were French LDS missionaries in 1802. In 1819, Charles Goodnight purchased land in Georgetown from the Cherokee Nation and began building a sawmill and gristmill on the current site of the McConnell Grain Mill Complex. The mill became known as Goodnight's Mill because it was run by Charles Goodnight's father-in-law, John McConnell. The mill also manufactured paper products such as envelopes and hats for local businesses and sold them to other mills throughout Indiana and Ohio until it closed its doors in 1925. In 1907, Congress created Marshall County to encompass all of northern Jefferson County including Georgetown and built a courthouse there which still stands today. The countyseat was moved from downtown Louisville to Georgetown in 1912 when that city became too large for its own courthouse complex. In 1916, Georgetown became an incorporated village after being approved by referendum of the Marshall County board of commissioners. On October 1, 1928, Georgetown annexed part of neighboring Paducah Township which had been vacated by its citizens due to lack of development opportunities within that township.. The discovery of coal seams near present day Paducah led to heavy industry growth in northeastern Kentucky during World War II with production at the McConnell Grain Mill Complex reaching 8 million barrels per month; however, post-war growth slowed as competition from imported goods made traditional industries more competitive overall; however, regional remains like Georgetown have continued strong economic activity through various cycles over time culminating with their current status as an industrial center with much job creation over recent yearss thanks both to government investment into new technology infrastructure (eGPS) & creative destruction (the rise of entire non-traditional restaurant/cafeteria sectors). Today's economy is driven largely by servicessector jobs within healthcare / education & professional services but some aspects remain reflective of older manufacturing heavyweights like McConnell Grain Mill Complex; such as old abandoned warehouses now used for housing or commercial office space (& recently renovated into mixed use LEED certified apartments), or aging steel plants converted into light industrial areas complete with injection molding capabilities providing additional employment opportunities for locals despite declines elsewhere in region thru technological advancements/.

In 1795, French traders discovered Java and began to cultivate coffee there. In 1837, a British sailor named Edward Thomas landed on Java with 300 sacks of coffee beans. He exported this new discovery all over the world before dying at sea en route back to England in 1838. This event started the whole global trade in coffee beans that continues to this day!
Georgetown, Kentucky was founded by Major General Andrew Jackson on October 25th, 1809 as a small trading post on the Ohio River. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the confluence of two major rivers and its access to timber and other resources. In 1830, Georgetown became an agricultural center with large plantations producing cotton and corn. By 1860, Georgetown had become a thriving city with over 100 businesses and more than 10,000 residents. The city was abandoned in the 1870s due to economic decline and lack of population growth. However, parts of Georgetown have been revived as tourist attractions including the nearby Fort Knox National Monument and the Georgetown Battlefield Museum.
