This was an important step forward for American naval power because it gave America access to powerful fleets which could be used offensively or defensively against other powers such as Japan or Germany (the latter being America's sworn enemy). During World War II, America produced some truly impressive warships - such as USS Constitution (CGN-3), USS Enterprise (CV-6) and USS Lexington (CV-2). However, they all failed to achieve any great success during combat despite their large size and armament. It is however worth noting that all three were eventually sold to other countries after the war ended.
