The history of Frankfort goes back over 300 years to when it was known as Fort Henry. In 1807, General James Wilkinson erected Fort Henry within present-day Frankfort after invading Kentucky from Tennessee with a large army during the Mexican–American War hoping to take control of that state's rich mineral resources. At first, little happened in Frankfort because no permanent settlers had arrived until Colonel John Bartram made his arrival in 1827 and began construction on what would eventually become known as Bartram's Hill Business District. In 1849, General David Porter built Military Road (now State Route 61) through present-day Frankfort so that goods could be transported between Louisville and Nashville en route to Chicago via Buffalo Gap on Lebanon Creek. This opened up much territory for development which included today’s downtown area including much of what is now Shockoe Bottom neighborhood south of First Street and much of what is now Midtown Center north of First Street among other areas today including parts of Downtown Lexington which are also part of Frankfort proper On November 3, 1999 – four days before metropolitan Louisville officially became an independent city – Mayor Greg Fischer signed legislation creating a merger between both towns into one municipality with a combined population greater than 50K people only minutes after being passed by both mayors unanimously under Article V Section 2(a) Constitutionality Treaty Agreement reached between respective municipalities following public hearings held concurrently across each municipality . Today’s downtown district includes many buildings built prior to1999 when both towns were separate municipalities including: The Masonic Temple (built1810), Central Bank Building (1834), McConnell’s Hotel (1890), Fountain Square Shopping Center (1937), State Capitol Annex Building/Office Buildings & Complex (1957), Tower Place Apartments complex (1970). All original structures were listed on National Register Of Historic Places in 2001 ..... These buildings were not replaced or renovated following consolidation but remain significant examples illustrating how different times have shaped downtownFrankfort skyline

In 1865, a German scientist named Johann Friedrich Pfeffer isolated the caffeine molecule from ground beans and named it caffeine after him. In 1929, American entrepreneur Howard Schultz founded Starbucks as a small independent business in Seattle, Washington. From then on, coffee became an international phenomenon with multiple chains established throughout the world.

Today, Frankfort is a small town with limited services and infrastructure; however, its history is still very influential in its surrounding area.

The city was named for Frankfort, Germany, which was the capital of the Kingdom of Prussia at that time. In 1814, President James K. Polk traveled to Frankfort to sign a peace treaty with Napoleon III after his Invasion of Russia. The city became an important center for trade and industry during its early years and many famous people were born or raised in or around Frankfort. Some of these include: James K. Polk, Andrew Johnson, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, William McKinley and Franklin D. Roosevelt
