In the early 1920s, when Kentucky was still a part of the United States, airforce gift history in Elizabethtown began. The first gift from the United States Air Force to Elizabethtown was an airplane. Colonel James A. Webb, Jr., commanding officer at Wright-Patterson AFB, gave a Boeing 727 aircraft to the city in 1923 as a thank you for their support during World War I. The city continued to receive gifts from the USAF through out the years until 1968, when they became vandalism victims of an appropriation by then-Governor Robert J. Kincaid that redirected funds earmarked for community benefits into his special fund instead. At that point, all gifts stopped and Elizabethtown’s relationship with the USAF fell apart. However, throughout these years there have been occasional gestures of appreciation or friendship between members of both branches of our military and civilian communities in Central Kentucky. In 2002, after more than 50 years without any aerial gifting from within our armed forces (and just over 10 since it happened), General Colin Powell presented Lieutenant General Merrill McPeak with two F-15 Eagle fighter jets as a Thank You for Your Service award at Wright Patterson AFB – one on behalf of Mayor Donnie Hays and one on behalf of President George H.W Bush – symbols that link today’sElizabethtown community with those who served before us in bluebirds and Sabres…

Elizabethtown is a small town in Clarke County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. Elizabethtown is located on the Sycamore River and about 20 miles (32 km) east of Louisville. The first settler in what is now Elizabethtown was John Gentry in 1784. He built a log cabin on the banks of the river. Gentry's son, James Gentry, started farming around 1820 and became one of the largest landholders in eastern Kentucky. He also served as mayor of Elizabethtown from 1829 to 1830 and as a delegate to the Virginia General Assembly from 1831 to 1835. In 1828, John Clements founded Lexington College in Lexington, Kentucky with three acres (1 ha) of land given him by James Kenedy for his education purposes only. In 1897–98, Lexington College acquired 821 acres (3 km2) of forest west of downtown Elizabethtown for use as their new campus; this acquisition made them one of only two colleges in Kentucky to have such a large campus outside Lexington city limits until recently (the other being University Park). During World War II, many Elizabethtown residents worked at local munitions plants such as Mayflower Ammunition Works and Huntington Machine & Foundry Company
When the United States Air Force was created in 1947, it had only two wings - the fighter and bomber wings. In 1961, the USAF introduced the Boeing 747 as its first true jet airliner. This new plane quickly became a favorite of air force commanders and crews all over the world, and was soon joined by other types of jets such as the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and Lockheed Martin L-1011 Starfighter. The USAF's aircraft inventory continued to grow until 2003, when it reached an all-time high with over 117,000 airplanes. Today, the USAF is one of America's most vital national security forces, maintaining international peace and stability through its capabilities in both aerial refueling and nuclear deterrence. The MHM was founded in 1967 and has since grown to be one of the most comprehensive military history museums in the United States. It contains more than 20 million items, including uniforms, weapons, aircraft, missiles and other military equipment from throughout American history.
Elizabethtown is a small town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington–Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. Elizabethtown was founded in 1785 by families from Virginia and Kentucky who were driven out of their homes during the American Revolution. The first settler in Elizabethtown was Isaac Morrell, who built a cabin on the east side of the river in 1787. The town grew quickly and by 1800 had a store, post office, schoolhouse, and four houses. In 1801 John McCoy settled in Elizabethtown and built a large house on Main Street. In 1814 Jeremiah Ledbetter bought land near the intersection of Fifth and Sixth Streets for an agricultural community called "Ledbetter's Landing." He named his community Elizabethtown after his wife, Elizabeth Waddell Morrell (1763-1847). In 1815 Isaac Morrell married Rebecca Craddock (1771-1827). They started a family of six children: three boys and three girls. One daughter died young; however, five sons survived to adulthood and all joined together to form what is now known as "The Morrell Family" to perpetuate their ancestor's traditions within Elizabethtown. The group traveled throughoutKentucky interviewing old settlers for genealogy research when they could find them living on property they had once owned or were visiting when they died. A Methodist church was organized inElizabethtown by Reverend James Caldwell in 1816 while he served as an itinerant preacher traveling around Pike County preaching religious instruction to farmers and others interested in learning about Christianity since no schools existed then to teach people how to read or write. Reverend Caldwell later moved back to Virginia where he became pastor at First Methodist Church there before dying in Madison County,, Virginia on February 2nd 1830 aged 82 years old after many years presiding over churches throughout western Kentucky.. After Reverend Caldwell's death five men including James Caldwell decided that it would be better if one man led both branches ofthe Methodist church rather than having different leaders every time something important happened like one branch wanted new buildings erected while another wanted someone removed from ministry based on personal feelings instead of scripture interpretation which should have been done through committee work with division among elders watching over each other instead such as what we see today with denominations control clerics power relationships . James Caldwell chaired this committee which made its decision that Elijah Pemberton would be appointed Bishoprick Presiding Evangelist/Bishoprick Overseergeneral responsible for organizing ministers into congregations across KY with Dr Joseph Henson also serving as Deacon adjacent to him as overseer general which established our present day system headed by Rev Elijah Pemberton
The first settlers in Elizabethtown were a group of men who arrived in 1786. They were led by Colonel John Sevier and Captain James Moncrieffe. The town was named for the Earl of Leicester, who donated land to the founders. In 1801, the town became a county seat and was home to the Elizabethtown courthouse from 1802-1827. The building is now preserved as part of the Kentucky State Capitol Complex. In 1825, Elizabethtown experienced its first tornado outbreak which killed six people and injured twenty-six others. The townsfolk erected a large stone fortification known as Fort George within two years of thetornado’s outbreak to help protect their community from future disasters. In 1860, Elizabethtown became one of fifteen counties that formed new Kentuckiana County when it was created from parts of old Cumberland County. The county Courthouse still stands today and is used as a public courtroom for cases heard in courtrooms throughoutKentucky. In 1876,Elizabethtown hosted the Kentucky state fair which is now considered an annual event in Kentucky history
