Danville is a small town in northeastern Kentucky. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Campbell County. The town was founded in 1814 by Colonel John Danforth and his wife Nancy as a stop on their journey from Louisville to Cairo, Illinois. In 1840, it became the first post office in Campbell County. The name "Danforth" honorized Colonel John Danforth's father-in-law, Jonathan Danforth. The Dandelles were one of the early settlers in Danville and are buried there within the city limits of Danville. They came from Scotland and had 10 children including Daniel Dandello who immigrated to America with his parents in 1793 and settled on a farm near present day Daisy (now part of Lexington) before moving to what is now Danville where he built a flour mill which still stands today and which produced flour for local markets until 1974 when it closed down due to lack of demand. In 1847, General Edwin Easley purchased land east of present day Campbellsburg Boulevard between Mays Creek Road and Elkridge Road for what would become known as National Forest #1 (later called USFS Woodlands National Recreation Area). This area remains an important agricultural sector today as timber production continues to be an important facet of the economy for many years both here at home and abroad thanks to efficient logging techniques employed by companies such as Chieftain Paper Mills Incorporated located just outside town along Highway 69 about two miles west of downtownDanville’s commercial center flanked by Rowdy Raccoon Wildlife Preserve northeast of town on federal forest property managed by U.S Fish & Wildlife Service much like those found scattered throughout Appalachia that have been used for hunting, trapping, fishing and other outdoor activities since prehistory
