Campbellsville is a small town in the Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The first settler in Campbellsville was James Campbell, who arrived in 1786. His son John took over the family farm and built a cabin on what is now State Route 20. In 1811, John's grandson David Campbell began to clear land for farming and built a house on what is now Main Street. He also purchased enough land to form a townsite – which he named after his father-in-law Captain James Caldwell (1762-1835). In 1825, David's grandson Hiram Blackburn purchased 640 acres from Captain Caldwell and started developing it into what is today Campbellsville. He erected the first schoolhouse in 1827; later that year he also erected a dam across the Big Sandy River to createLake Cumberland. Blackburn became one of Louisville's earliest landowners and entrepreneurs. During its early years, Campbellsville was primarily an agricultural community with few residents other than farmers and their families. However, as development proceeded downtown and around Lake Cumberland, fishing became an important economic activity for local businesses as well as for shipping goods downstream to Louisvilleeland beyond. By 1840 more than 100 people lived in Campbellsville; by 1850 it had reached 1,000 people with several large homes including those of Judge Samuel Hager (1810-1885) and Drury Covington (1800-1871). During prohibition times most of eastern Kentucky lost its liquor sales because production stopped outside of New York City - so many people living east of Interstate 65 were dry that they did not even have streets or houses numberable within their own communities! Many residents moved westward out of fear they would become "dry lawless geniuses" if they remained within reach of whiskey smugglers! So many people abandoned their homes during Prohibition that there are still some areas where no one knows how many houses once stood - just like when surveyors first came through during Reconstruction! Postwar growth has been slow due to limited resources but steady job creation led to increased housing prices throughout much of Eastern Kentucky since 2000 according to data fromFHFA’s Community Development Financial Institutions report “Eastern Kentucky Living Wage Survey” which found that median home values increased by 83%. According to this report: “The percentage increase ranged from 33% in Floyd County (population 515)to 78% in Butler County (population 2 million), indicating an increasing demand for high quality housing relative to incomes levels” . There are currently plans underway by FHFA/EKFIB with private investors totaling over $100 million dollars towards building approximately 4500 new housing units over 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!! This will provide access for low income individuals and families across Eastern Kentucky who have long suffered without good qualityhousing
