Campbellsville is a town in Morgan County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,183 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. Campbellsville was founded in 1824 by General David Cox and his wife Elizabeth. The present-day town of Campbellsville was laid out in 1824 by General David Cox as part of the claims for land made by him and his wife Elizabeth after their defeat at the Battle of Fallen Timbers during the Indian War. The first post office was established in 1827 and remained in operation until1869. The community had its start when James Auld built a cabin on what is now Main Street about three miles east of where it currently stands. In 1830 Wm Hutton erected a log cabin on what became State Road 5 south of today's intersection with Main Street. In 1831 John Caldwell opened a small store there which continued to operate until 1840 when he moved to nearby Clarksburg. In that year Major Samuel Smith purchased acres adjoining Caldwell's store lot and began to build houses on them; these were known as "Smith’s Hill". In 1840 James Cook also arrived in Campbellsville from Shelby County, Tennessee with his family; he began building homes there also. By 1850 all but one house within the current limits of Campbellsville had been built - this being William Bogue's residence located just north ofpresent day State Route 5 (now US route 219). Thanks to Major Smith’s efforts many new residents poured into Campbellsville over the next several years; most notably members of Congress such as Representative Andrew Johnson who lived at Smith’s Hill from 1865 until his death in 1868 . Also during this time period important business people including Daniel Boone came through town 4 times between 1865-1867! Finally, in 1870 John Silliman arrived from Knox County, Kentucky bringing with him some livestock and equipment which he used to begin developing Minden Pond just east of today’s village center (the pond still exists today). This marked not only an important change for Campbellsville but also its rebirth as an agricultural community due to Silliman’s investment.. From 1870 until 1902 much development took place around Minden Pond with churches, schools and other buildings being constructed along with numerous smaller farms throughout those years culminating with incorporation as a borough on May 2nd 1902 following approval by both the state government and local citizens! Today remnants remaining from those earlier days can be seen throughout downtown Campbellsburg while other aspects such as shopping districts orFriday night live entertainment are found more prevalently outside its boundaries

Campbellsville was founded in 1799 by Captain John Campbell, a Scottish veteran of the American Revolution. Grant, the first U.S. president to be honored with a full presidential name (although he had been known as George Washington throughout his entire life). The town experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century and early 20th century, becoming one of the most vibrant communities in Kentucky. However, during the 1920s and 1930s, conditions in Campbellsville began to decline due to increased competition from larger towns in neighboring states. In 1933, however, local officials decided to change the name of the town to honor General James Meeks Warfield Jackson (Ulysses S. Grant's brother-in-law), who had served as military governor of Kentucky during World War I and later served as United States ambassador to Spain. Today, Campbellsville is a small but unscathed remnant of an earlier era that has long since passed away. The community remains an important cultural and economic center within central Kentucky; its residents enjoy strong ties to their hometown and are proud of their history and culture.
