The Coast Guard has been present in Berea, Kentucky since 1879. The first patrol boat was built in 1881 and the first lighthouse was built in 1903. In 1912, the Coast Guard Auxiliary was created and the first rescue helicopter was purchased in 1967. Today, the Coast Guard operates a fleet of over 50 boats and helicopters that respond to calls for help from local residents, businesses, and government agencies. Since its inception, the Coast Guard has made a significant impact on Berea’s economy by providing critical services such as search and rescue, maritime security, traffic control, and environmental protection. Additionally, the Coast Guard has responded to many disaster events including both natural disasters (such as Hurricane Andrew) and terrorist attacks (such as 9/11). It is through these experiences that the Coast Guard has learned how to work withlocal communities to provide essential public safety services. Today, there are multiple organizations dedicated to fulfilling the needs of the Coast Guardsmen in Berea. These organizations include: The United States Coast Guardsmen division at Louisville Naval Air Station; The Berea-Kentucky Sea Rescue Squadron; The Northern Kentucky Regional Support Center; The Harbor Protection Unit; and The Water Research Laboratory at Northern Illinois University. Each organization provides important service to Berea citizens while working together towards a common goal - protecting our coastal community from harm!

Berea is a small town located in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 713 at the 2010 census. It was named for Berea College, which opened in 1811 in what is now Berea. Berea is one of the few towns in Kentucky to be unincorporated. The first permanent settler in what is now Berea was James Hickey who arrived there on September 3, 1792 with his family. Hickey's land included present-day Hardin and Perry Counties as well as parts of western Knox County. The first post office in the area was established at Hickey's cabin on October 4, 1794. A sawmill and gristmill were built around 1800 by John Brown and James Rankin respectively; these sites are still standing today within the limits of Berea. A school district was organized in 1829 by commissioners from Lexington and Other Towns; this district included present-day Berea and portions of both Hardin and Perry Counties until it was dissolved in 1868 when those counties united to form the new county of Hardin. In 1878, a water system for town residents was installed by order of Mayor George Prentice; that same year, an all-weather track was completed northeast to Market Street from Main Street providing transportation for townspeople to their various businesses north of Market Street. In 1840, two additional settlers arrived at the site of today's downtown Berea - Willis Bowen and Hiram Macon - bringing with them many acres (what is now much of downtown) they developed into a major center for agriculture production east of US 52 between Main Street and Wabash Avenue until discontinued during World War II due to lack of demand or opposition from nearby military installations such as Fort Mitchell (later Fort Belvoir). At its peak dairy production occurred on just over 12 acres (4 hectares) northeast cornering Court House Road/US 52/Wabash Avenue; however milk production gradually trailed off after 1945 due to increased competition from other types of agricultural products available nearer marketplaces throughout central Kentucky during that time period One significant event related to postwar expansion into hardening inner city areas near Louisville came about when farmers decided to move their operations outstripped demand near US 52/KY 36 interchange so relocated some cows onto interstates instead causing pollution problems including mudslides along I-65 corridor bordering Indiana state line that affected surrounding communities including Louisville
