Small batch coffee brewing is a centuries-old tradition in Winfield, Kansas. The first small batch coffee roaster was opened in 1895 by the brothers Harry and John Coffey. Their shop was located on Third Street in Winfield, and they served coffee until 1924. In that year, Harry Coffey passed away, and his brother John took over the business. From then on, the Coffey family ran the business together until 1953 when John Coffey died at the age of eighty-eight. In that year, their youngest son, Royce C., succeeded them as owner and operator of the business. At Royce's death in 1984, the business continued to be run by his two sons - David (1985-1993) and Brian (1994-present). The history of smallbatch coffee in Winfield goes back to at least 1896 when Harry Coffey opened his first small batch coffee shop called The Coffee House on Third Street. This early pioneer has left an indelible mark on Winfield's small batch caffeine history – not only did he serve up quality cup of java for locals and tourists alike throughout those years (!), but he also helped popularize this delicious beverage among local dignitaries and politicians. It wasn't until 1923 that another local entrepreneur took up small batch brewing – Augustus Pritchett started up his own grocery store on Main Street in Winfield which soon became home to one of Wichita’s earliest microbreweries – The Peterborough Brewery (later The Fredhof Brewery). Soon after that establishment opened its doors, other residents of Winfield began stocking their homes with fresh cold brews from these local breweries! It wasn’t long before homebrewers began creating their own variations ofsmallbatchcoffeefor themselves – some searching for a more assertive flavor than others; however, all felt something important was missing from commercially produced coffees: a sense of intimacy & community around a cupful or two! Thus arose Small Batch Coffee Club #1 (SBCC #1) back in 1978; this proto-club met monthly to discuss new & vintage beans & drink old school Americanos like nothing else! Our members were passionate about getting our unique style off the ground & keeping it alive (& we still do!), so if you’re feeling lucky (& want to support us), check out our SBCC archives today! In 1983/84 everything changed with regards to Wichita's craft beer scene when Wichita Brewing Company merged with Butte County Brewing Company resulting into Butte County Brewing System Incorporated; SBCS went from being an all-encompassing term referring to all but one brewery within Butte County Brewers Cooperative Ltd., unto simply “Butte CO Brewer System” beers thereafter!! Consequently any reference or mention thereof within this paper will likely reflect this status quo…until further notice ;) This structure change was due largely to KCB&BC president Rick Klinehuis' efforts during his time as treasurer for both breweries;Rick worked tirelessly advocating for———————————————————————- Small Batch Coffee Club #2 formed!!!(SBCC #2) !!!!! Rick Klinehuis organized this group because he felt there could be many more successfulaughters down the road than there were now members….so what better way then TO START A GROUP TO SUPPORT ONE ANOTHER AND HELP MAKE OUR COMMUNITY STRONGER THEN EVER BEFORE!!!!! In 1916, Winfield native and coffee farmer Harry Noyes started a small batch of coffee beans in his barn. The first shipment of beans was sold at $1 a pound. By the end of 1917, the business had grown to twelve pounds per week and Noyes decided to sell his beans direct to consumers. In 1918, he opened his own grocery store in Winfield and continued selling his coffee direct until 1949. In that time, he also founded the Winfield Coffee Club which remains active today.

Winfield is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 727 at the 2010 census. Winfield is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Winfield were three families from Illinois who moved to this area in 1872. They named their new village "Wisconsin." Wisconsin was the name given to a post office that opened in 1876 and served the community until it closed in 1902. The next year, they renamed their post office "Kansas." Kansas was chosen because it would be the only post office within 10 miles of the settlement and because there were no other towns or villages within that radius. In 1907, two brothers founded a mercantile business in Winfield which became known as Wagon Wheel Fords &Mercers. It continuedexportd wagons and goods until 1978 when it merged with another local mercantile company, Packing House Mills Corporation, which had been established earlier that year by Captain John Auld and his brother-in-law David Ladd. That same year, Wagon Wheel Fords & Mercers erected a three-story brick building on Main Street which remains today as one of Winfield's most important symbols of its historic past.

In Japan, too, smallbatch coffee started becoming popular during the Meiji period (1868-1912). With new immigrants coming into the country and exploring its delicious flavors for the first time, Japanese brewers began producing their own unique blends of beans that continue to be enjoyed today. In recent years, small batch coffee has become a global phenomenon.
