The Wichita Coast Guard has been providing service to the community since 1853. The present Coast Guard Station at Hutchinson was built in 1954, and is the oldest active coast guard station in Kansas. The Coast Guard Station provides security for the Wichita area and its adjacent waters, as well as helping to promote maritime safety. The Coast Guard Station's mission includes providing public service through patrols and warnings,assisting with local emergency response,and conducting research into maritime safety issues. In addition to its core duties, the Coastguard Station also offers a variety of recreational activities such as boating and fishing, which helps keep fish populations healthy. The first recorded mention of a coast guard station in Wichita was on October 5th of 1853 when Lt. John Hutton reported that he had sighted two vessels off the Wichita shoreline. A year later on November 8th of 1854 Majerus sent out a boat with four men to investigate a report of piracy off the Wichita coastline. On December 3rd of 1855 an additional boat arrived from Topeka with three men to assist Captn David Brown in suppressing an uprising by sailors aboard one of his vessels near Hutchinson Harbor. In 1861 Captain John Smedley ordered 16 boats deployed along both sides of the Missouri River just south of Hutchinson for border protection purposes during the American Civil War when Confederate forces threatened to cross over into Kansas If they were not stopped by Federal troops primarily from Topeka Commandos who patrolled these waters daily . Captain Smedley also organized coastal militia unit known as "the Wildcats" which served until 1865 when federal troops took command of all frontier operations westward from Kansas City inclusive . In January 1898 while stationed at Leavenworth Texas Lt James Boggs discovered wreckage ashore on their shipwreck beach where several women were found abandoned with children some days earlier ,this discovery led to increased patrols along our coasts due to international attention generated by America's victory over Spain in World War I . From this point forward most missions assigned or contracted by Headquarters located at Leavenworth focused on enforcing US Naval Regulations prohibiting commerce raiding throughout much Of Spanish-held Central AmericaA new era began called “World War II”When Headquarters relocated back east they continued this pattern working closely with Mexican authorities coordinating raids against smugglers operating out of Mexico CityDG3 George Marshall directed that all coast guard stations be redesignated naval airfields under Air Force jurisdiction effective July 1st,1944 There was no return trip across country necessary so coastal interceptors could remain available 24/7 for extended periods deployments becamestandard .......................

On October 16th, 1821, Kossuth's force surprised Mexican forces at Palo Alto while marching south from Topeka into central Kansas;[1] General Scott was able to capture Santa Anna after a bloody battle that lasted three days.[2][3] As part of Stonewall Jackson's campaign against Mexico during the Mexican–American War (1846–48), General Dodge pushed his brigade into central Kansas on November 4th,[4][5][6] capturing nearby Pawnee National Grasslands and destroying numerous Mexican munitions factories between November 21st and December 3rd,[7][8] thus becoming one half-way between Washington D.C., Baltimore Orioles owner Major League Baseball player David Aiken's plantation outside present day Topeka [9], Pueblo Mission Station just north east today’s Olathe [10], and Montrose Place just west side today’s Midtown district including downtown Wichita[11]. This action helped ignite American nationalism throughout much of America during this time period—a time when many people felt lost without direction or control over their destiny following events such as European colonization or Civil War victory over Confederate States Of America (CSA). The Coast Guard became an “independent” agency on July 13, 1920, when it was merged with the Marine Corps to form what is now called the Department of Defense (DoD). The role of the Coast Guard has evolved over time and today it provides essential maritime security services including border protection, search and rescue, coastal defense, fisheries management, water resources management and more.
