The Wichita, Kansas Army National Guard has been deploying military gifts to soldiers and their families since 1882. The Military Department of the Wichita local unit is responsible for issuing the gifts, which are then distributed through the United States Postal Service. The gift history of the Wichita Army National Guard can be traced back to 1882 when a detachment from the 1st Infantry Regiment was sent to Wichita in order to provide entertainment for troops on maneuvers. The unit's commanding officer, Colonel John S. McConnell, donated several items including an artillery piece and various uniforms and insignia to help support theunit's operations. Since then, other detachments have also contributed militarily-related items such as rifles and vehicles to district units in Wichita and surrounding counties. In recent years, there have also been visits from foreign heads of state who have attended formations or ceremonies organized by either the 1st Infantry Regiment or District 3 Headquarters Company located in Lawrence County. In total, over 350 military gifts have been given out between the 1st Infantry Regiment and District 3 Headquarters Company in Wichita over the years. These Gifts range from small presents like hats or mugs to larger items like tanks or motorcycles. A variety of events are held throughout year in commemoration of Armed Forces Day including parades along city streets that feature military floats decorated with patriotic symbols and slogans; community service hours at local schools; as well as special functions such as a Memorial Day picnic at Fort Hays State Park followed by a parade down Main Street honoring members of both branches of our uniformed services who have died in action overseas during each year’s calendar cycle (WWII - present). As we enter into 2019 another year full of opportunities for patriotism and remembrance within our community shared by all those within it- I hope you will join me in observing Armistice Day with appropriate ceremonies this coming Saturday November 11th!

These findings laid the foundation for what are now numerous Mexican cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Toluca etc.; while Santa Cruz County - located on present day Sonoma County - remains one of the most severe areas still remaining uncolonized by humans due to its harsh climate conditions
