The Topeka Navy Museum has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. The museum is home to more than 350 pieces of navy and marine memorabilia, including items from the USS Perry (BB-57), the first submarine in U.S. naval service. The Topeka Naval Militia was organized in 1907 and served as an auxiliary arm of the Topeka Police Department until 1912. In 1916, the Topeka Naval Militia joined forces with the Kansas National Guard to form what would become known as “the Navy’s Eighth Regiment”. In World War I, navy sailors from Topeka volunteered for service in France and Belgium because they felt that the United States was not doing enough to support its military allies. Upon their return, they formed Company C of 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines at Municipal Airport on May 8, 1918 – just days after America entered World War I. After serving in Europe for two years, these marines were discharged on October 25, 1919 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Virginia Beach, Virginia following training under Commander John A Harkins Jr., USNRF2C (Ret). While stationed at Norfolk during Prohibition period (1920-1921), Company C was redesignated Company K which continued operations until relieved by 4th Marines on November 1st 1921 when all liquor stores closed throughout country due to prohibition law changes effective that day. On December 15th 1921 company disbanded at Norfolk Naval Shipyard citing lack of volunteers for future operations however company members formed a new unit called “Topeka Rifles” and continued existence through 1922-1923 as part of 3rd Marine Brigade under General John Fenton commanding First Marine Division during world war II; this detachment also provided security for President Franklin D Roosevelt when he made his first public appearance after inauguration on January 20th 1933 at Wichita State University Stadium before returning home December 12th less than two weeks later aboard USS Missouri (BB-63) after delivering fuel oil supplies to Japan via airfield near Shanghai China; escort carrier flagship during Pearl Harbor attackAugust 7 1944 while en route from Eniwetok Atoll TO Kwajalein Atoll; damage control party assigned late action sceneMay 14 1945 when Japanese warships attackedFord IslandIN Hawaiian IslandsAfterWorld War II Bottomekan communitywas establishedandnavy personnel activatedasguardsian guard force

Topeka, Kansas is a small town in the United States of America. It was founded in 1854 and named for Topeka, England. Topeka is located on the Arkansas River, about 37 miles (60 kilometers) east of Wichita, the state's capital. The population of Topeka was 931 as of 2010. The town began as a wagon train stop on the old Santa Fe Trail. In 1854, steamboats started carrying goods up the Arkansas River to Wichita from downtown Topeka. The first post office in Topeka was established in 1855. In 1870, a cotton mill was built near Main Street and it became one of the largest cotton mills in Kansas. The mill closed in 1951 and its property became part of Blue Light Mall later that year. The city hall building used by Topeka City Council from 1895 to 1935 is now a museum inside the Hutchinson County Courthouse Annex Building on State Street in Hutchison City. In 1907, Territorial Governor James Buchanan announced that topographic changes would make Wichita an ideal place for a new county seat; Wichita chose Topeka over Shawnee due to its location on what had been then called "the Promised Land." A referendum resulted in approval by voters to move Topeka from Shawnee to Wichita on November 3, 1907; this event is often cited as marking Lawrence Wright's victory as mayor of Wichita over incumbent John Wahlquist when that city council election took place two days later. In 1911, steel plants were relocated to Pardeeville (now Orchard Park), Kansas after being abandoned by other manufacturers because they could not compete with American labor prices at those times. Steel production continued until 1978 when it closed down due to economic reasons following World War II; however, some steel products still remain produced there today including parts for Boeing 737s and 747s airplanes made out of lightweight aluminum alloy tubing and billet shapes like those used for jet engine blades and turbine blades respectively
