A few years later (1835), another schoolhouse—the first public school building erected in this area—was completed at Seventh and Delaware Streets near modern day Peet’s Corner plaza Shopping Center; that structure still stands today (though dilapidated). In 1836–37, another public school was built at Ninth and Haskell Streets just south of downtown where Central High currently stands; that building too still stands today but has been converted into apartment buildings since then!
