Some of the earliest coffee shops in Topeka were established in the late 1800s, and while some continue to operate today, others have passed away or been replaced by newer businesses. The first cafe on this site was The Coffee House at 6th and Wabash streets in 1892. It was one of the first places people would stop on their way to work or from town. One of the original owners, John Beavers, started roastings his own beans and sold them out within hours of opening. He continued to run The Coffee House until it closed its doors in 1958. In 1898, Mr. Harry Smith opened The Coffee Shop at 5th and Belmont streets which became one of Topeka's most popular spots for breakfast or lunch during those years. It was also home to local newspapers that were published there like The Daily Review and The Wichita Eagle before moving to later locations on First Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets in 1951-1957 (First Avenue Cafe). In 1958, it closed again when Harry's son moved into the business with his wife Vicky Smith who operated it until her death in 1990. At that point it reopened as an all-day open air café under the name “Vicky’s Place” with seating for 130 people inside and outside on a covered patio facing First Avenue Street which became known as “The Boulevard” after Vicky’s death). During this time Mr. Harry Smith's daughter Dorothy ran the business from her home until her death followed by her husband Bob Smith who owned it from 1993 until their deaths in 2003 (Dorothy's Place Café). After three ownership changes over thirty five years food service manager Terri Henson took over management from 2003-2007 (Henson's Café & Lounge) before becoming operations manager effective January 1st 2008 (Henson's Restaurant). Upon taking over management she renamed the restaurant "Topeka Coffee Company" effective January 1st 2009 (). Today Topeka Coffee Company operates as an independently owned casual dining restaurant serving up quality coffee made fresh daily throughout our expansive kitchen located inside our corporate building located at 400 S Main Street,. Topeka, Kansas is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas and the county seat of Shawnee County. The population was 131,549 as of 2010. Topeka is the third-largest city in Kansas, after Wichita and Lawrence. It is also one of the fastest-growing cities in America, with an average annual growth rate of 7.4% from 2000 to 2010. Topeka's economy is based on education and health care services; it has a large medical industry and research presence within its borders; and it hosts a variety of cultural events each year that draw thousands of people from all over the United States. The first European settlers arrive in what is now Topeka in 1836, when James Hennepin landed at Cape Girardeau on the Missouri River ahead of his expedition to explore what lay beyond the Indian Territory then under Mexican control. By 1841, most topographical features had been determined by surveyors working for John Dickey, who had become governor general during President Andrew Johnson's administration as part of Reconstruction efforts following Civil War victory over Confederate forces at Fort Sumter (January 8, 1861 - April 9, 1865). In 1846, when Territorial Governor Henry Watkins selected Topeka as capital due to its location as well as its advantages as a center for trade with surrounding counties and states – including Douglas County – local residents voted unanimously to disestablish their old townspeople's militia company known locally as "the Whigs." The new capital was inaugurated on October 4th by Mayor Andrus Boynton with cannons firing from across Main Street into an empty lot near present day State Capitol Hill before 1,000 citizens assembled for dinner at Masonic Hall afterwards (later partaking in a performance by Buffalo Bill Cody). The early years were difficult for Topeka merchants because transportation was only available wagons or teams pulled by oxen or horses; goods could not be transported more than 50 miles (80 km) north or south without being unloaded first at Council Bluffs or Leavenworth Junction on the Missouri River where wagon trains would then continue their journey downriver until they arrived back at Council Bluffs where processing continued ashore before being reloaded onto boats again for transport upriver again The first railroad crossing was completed in 1868 when Northwest Missouri Railroad extended west from Council Bluffs through downtown Topeka making transportation much easier A water tower/ pumping station was built east side of Main Street just west of present day State Capitol Hill around 1870 which became important for supplying water to many homes associated with downtown development In 1875–76 City fathers decided that it would make more sense to build closer together along main streets rather than have individual buildings scattered around like todaymarks Financial District etc & this led to today’s 17 blocks long Downtown core which includes Market Place Extension between Third & Fourth Streets

Topeka, Kansas is a city in the US state of Kansas. The population was 61,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Shawnee County. Topeka is one of two cities in Topeka County and its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) has a total population of 181,349 as of July 1, 2016. The CSA includes all unincorporated areas within Topeka City Limits and most of Shawnee County. The first settler in Topeka was David Whitcomb on April 12, 1847. In 1854, John Fenton founded an agricultural colony called "Fenton's Grove." Fenton's Grove became the capital of Kaweisha County in 1861 when it was moved from Wichita to Topeka because Wichita had become too large for its own government. On January 25, 1867, Lawrence Murchison established a town site east of downtown on the Arkansas River with land donated by Ebenezer Barnes and Wm Hays Barns. In 1870–71 Drury opened a general store at Fourth and Walnut Streets that became one of the largest businesses in town until it closed in 1978 due to competition from larger stores downtown. The first library was built on Third Street near present-day State Capitol Hill on October 14, 1870; this building still stands today and serves as the main library building for Topeka City limits. The first schoolhouse was built on Third Street north side near Present-day State Capitol Hill in 1872; this building also still stands today and serves as the main school building for Shawnee County limits On December 17th 1886 James Purdy organized what would be known as "The Knights Templar" which soon began providing social services to immigrants living in Topeka who were not able to find work or housing. This group provided food for their members during hard times which lasted until World War I In 1907 Kansa Copper Company opened up shop at Fifth and Main Streetswhich would become one of KCPC's biggest employers over time .KCPC would remain an important employer into later years however eventually sold their business to Arrowhead Mines Incorporated which continues operations today ..Topekans are proud owners/operatorsof Arrowhead Mines Incorporated!
