Hill, donated a wagonload of rifles to the Kansas Volunteer Infantry Regiment. The next year, Topeka Mayor George Wickersham donated 10 cannons and projectiles to the Kansas Volunteers as well. OtherTopeka mayors followed suit, donating items such as clothing and supplies to various regiments throughout the war. In 1865, Topeka Mayor Charles French gave an additional supply of weapons and ammunition to the Union Side in order to help them victory over Confederate forces at Battle Creek Gap outside of Topeka. Just two years later in 1868, French again contributed items like artillery pieces and munitions to the Union side during their fight against General Robert Eberement's Confederations at Belknap Springs Battlefield near Wichita Falls. These donations helped contribute significantly towards Union victory over Confederate forces during the Civil War.

Topeka, Kansas is a city in the U.S. state ofKansas and the county seat of Riley County. The population was 17,343 at the 2010 census. Topeka is home to three universities: the University of Kansas, Wichita State University, and Kanseli Community College. The first white person to set foot on what would become Topeka's present-day site was James Kellar in 1823 as part of his search for land for a new fur trading post on the continent known then as North America. Kellar's landing marked one end of what would become First Avenue which ran from east to west through today's downtown area before turning northward along Second Avenue into today's High Street corridor. In 1827 Captain John Brown (a member of Captain Samuel Morse's Expedition) began construction on what would come to be known as Brown Hall while others built Fort Osage farther south near International Boulevard/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard (now Jefferson Street). On July 15th 1830 John Wesley Powell explored northwest quadrant (today’s northeast quadrant) of this area when he reached an altitude over 6,000 feet above sea level; during his ascent he observed water courses running parallel to each other 1 mile distant from him- these were later determined to be two branches off Arkansas River which forms our Territory boundaries today withTopeka located immediately east or northeast thereof Trained Indian guides led Powell up these routes until about 8 Pm., when they stopped suddenly about 12 miles due west from where we now stand Point Lookout mountain
