The Navy has a long and proud history in the Shawnee community. The navy has deployed throughout World War II, Korea, and Vietnam and has always been a part of the local community. In recent years, the navy has also become involved with local war efforts. In 2006, the Shawnee Naval Militia was formed to support military activity in the area. This group is made up of residents who have volunteered their time to help out with drills and events. They are currently responsible for guarding naval installations in town. The navy also donated a gift to Shawnee in 2009. It was a large T-shirt that read “Welcome to Navy Station Shawnee” on one side and “Thank you for your support” on the other. This gesture showed how much the navy cares about its community members and their readiness for future operations.

This relaxed atmosphere has allowed residents to get to know each other better and build strong relationships which have helped ensure stability in an often unstable world.

Shawnee, Kansas is a small town in Osborne County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Shawnee is the county seat of Osborne County. It is the only incorporated municipality in the county. In 1868, Ulysses S. Grant made Shawnee his home and he donated land to the town for its development.
The first settler in Shawnee was John Worthington, who arrived on July 24, 1868. He was followed by George Witherspoon and Charles Ladd with their families on October 16 of that year. On November 17th came James Hinton and family from Illinois with a wagon train full of goods for what would be the first post office in Shawnee. The first store opened in 1888 at corner of Main and US Highway 6A (now US Highway 169). In 1916-1917 three companies built miles long pipelines through Shawnee for oil production which helped create an economy around oil production which continued until about 1970 when gas became more accessible"Oil Spill Spreads to Wichita as Pipelines Close; Oklahoma's Capital Loses Its Oil Industry," Wichita Eagle.

However both stores reopened within a few weeks after being bought out by their new owners < br />
