The outbreak of World War II in 1939 led to an increased demand for munitions and industrial equipment throughout the United States. As a result, several small companies were formed to provide these needs – including Cimarron Arms Manufacturing Company (CAM) – which would become one of America’s leading manufacturers of military hardware and software products. CAM continued to be active until its bankruptcy in 2001; however, its legacy will live on through its successor company, CIMARGO Corporation. During World War II, American soldiers stationed abroad received unique gifts from local womenfolk – items such as crockpots full of food or sewing machines used to make clothing for troops overseas. Shawnee, Kansas is a small town in central Kansas. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Shawnee was founded by James Wohlgemuth in 1836. It became a city in 1907 and was renamed Shawnee Mission after its founder's death in 1881. The community lies on the Arkansas River, about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Wichita and 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Topeka. The first permanent settler in Shawnee was James Wohlgemuth, who arrived there in 1836 with his family from Germany. In 1840, he built the first log cabin on the present site of Shawnee Mission. He also erected a stockade to protect his land from attack by Indian tribesmen. Over time, other German settlers also arrived in Shawnee, some of whom set up shop around what is now First National Bank Building and Third Avenue South. In 1851, Wohlgemuth married Lena Hildebrandt, who had come to live with him at Shawanake about a mile (1 km) east of where he now resides on First Street NE. In 1907 when Shawnee Mission merged with Wichita to form Wichita-Shawnee Municipal Corporation, many residents chose to remain within their original communities rather than move to Wichita or another nearby city which would have been dominated by commercial interests and would not have given them much control over their lives or neighborhoods. This preference for remaining within one's own community has been continued through today and remains an important factor contributing to the unique character of ShawnEEe- which can be seen most clearly in its narrow streets and smalltown atmosphere combined with its close proximity to downtown Wichita

Shawnee was founded in 1837 by the Shawnee Chiefs. The town was named after the Shawnee word "haha," meaning "to cut down." In 1861, during the American Civil War, Shawnee was part of the Union side and pro-slavery. It later joined the Kansas Territory in 1907. The current town of Shawnee is located in Butler County, Kansas. The first settlers to Shawnee were Native Americans who had migrated from central Indiana in search of new land to live on. Over time, other European immigrants also arrived in small numbers, eventually creating a village known as "Hahama" on what is now the south side of main street in downtown Shawnee. On July 3, 1837, a group of men from nearby Pottawatomie County led by Captain John Fetterman set out from Hahama with seed money and tools to begin farming what would become Shawnee. They named their new settlement for their leader, Chief Pontiac's Raiding party's captain and first settler Andrew Whitehead (or White Hawk). In 1840–41 an army led by General Winfield Scott invaded Missouri during the Mexican-American War and overran much of Mexico before being forced back into Texas by President Sam Houston. This event helped launch Ulysses S Grant into national prominence as one of America's leading generals during Reconstruction Era America which followed the end of slavery across most Of Latin America following its abolition in 1865 when Brazil became an republic. So too did Arizona fall within American territory following its admission as a state in 1912—a result of how territorial acquisitions were decided at those times through popular vote rather than through military occupation or conquest like that done afterwards with Hawaii and Alaska.) On February 14th 1860 five chiefs from nearby Wichita County traveled to Council Bluffs to present proposals for organizing a battalion under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer for service against Federal forces on April 19th at Fort Riley near Topeka where about 5500 cavalrymen under Major General James Hogg were quartered pending deployment against Confederate forces operating along Kansas' western border under Brigadier General Sterling Pricey(the man who years later would lead Ulysses S Grant into battle at Gettysburg)). After hearing about this proposal local residents gathered around Independence Hall on Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets “to give voice thereto” according to historian Ethelbert Masterson while others met near Government House on First Street east of Market Place just north of today’s US Postal Service building). At least one person recorded attending this meeting including contemporary newspaper editor Elijah Hicks who wrote: “we took up a collection among us that amounted to $250” per source).
