In 1892, Dutchman Joris van der Kamp imported two sacks of maga beans from Indonesia and began to sell them in his grocery store in Topeka. This discovery led to the development of the industry in Salina because Java was then the most important source for maga beans. A few years later, Mr. Van der Kamp died without leaving any heirs and his store went out of business. It wasn't until 1915 when another Dutchman named Cornelis de Bruyn became interested in importing and selling maga coffee through his trading company, Aromatico Coffee & Trading Company. At this time, there were also several other grocery stores across town that sold maga coffee products such as Supra Coffee & Tea Company and The Daily Grinders Shop. By 1922, all these businesses had combined into one large enterprise under the name Aromatico Coffee & Trading Company which continued to produce and distribute maga coffee until it ceased operations in 1984 completely due to changing tastes within society towards espresso-based drinks. When Aromatico Coffee & Trading Company ceased operations, it left behind a legacy of commercial success for salinas’ Maga Beanery Ltd., which continues today as one of the largest firms specializing exclusively in handmade espresso drinks throughout Kansas City Missouri USA!
