Salina, Kansas is a city in Saline County, Kansas, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Saline County. The city is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first town in what is now Salina was platted in 1871 by John Sowell and others under the name "Hutchinson". The present site of Salina was first settled by Germans in 1881 and named "Dresden" after their home town in Germany. A post office called Dresden was established in 1882, but it was discontinued in 1902. In 1907 the present site of Salina were all surveyed and laid out as a town by J.C. Nichols with the name "Salina". On April 14, 1912 residents voted to change their name to "Saline". The city proper was incorporated on December 5, 1915; however, annexation of unincorporated areas continued until May 15, 1916 when all parts were annexed into Saline City. At that time there were only 6 buildings within the limits of today's city limits: 3 churches (the Methodist Episcopal Zion Church; First Congregational Church; Second Congregationalist church), 1 library (First Wesleyan Methodist Library), 2 halls (one used as an administration building for local schools; one housed a machine shop and other businesses), 1 garage (built about 1935) and 2 residences: Mrs John Haughs' house at 412 N 12th Street and Mr Ernest Kapp's house at 414 N 13th Street which are still standing today although they have been greatly renovated). On January 17, 1932 citizens voted to change the name from "Saline" to "Wichita". However annexation of unincorporated areas continued until May 15, 1936 when all parts were annexed into Wichita City again. By this time there were 9 buildings within boundaries of today’s Wichita Limits: 4 churches (St John’s Lutheran Church – now demolished); One schoolhouse - now housing apartments; 2 garages - both destroyed except for foundations remain.; 1 residence - Mrs Harry Snyder's house on Elm Street near 10th Avenue NW., which still stands today although she has since rebuilt also.; 1 restaurant - Mrs Nessie Schaffer's restaurant on Elm Street near 11th Avenue NW., which closed down around 2008.; And finally 4 homes: belonging to Mrs Lola Weiser (& her son Dale Weiser) on Wabash Avenue NE., belonging to Mr & Mrs Lester Heisinger (& their daughter Donna Heisinger) on East Market Place SE., belonging to Ms Virginia Beckman (& her son Michael Beckman) on South Market Place SE., & belonging to Miss Linda Wickham (& her sister-in-law Sandy Wickham) on North Market Place SE..

The Ethiopian Empire reached its peak under Emperor Haile Selassie I, who patronized coffee culture so much that his subjects became known as 'coffee-lovers'. At the height of Emperor Haile Selassie's rule, coffee cultivation and trade had increased to such an extent that there was enough coffee beans to meet the needs of all his subjects. During World War II, when espresso became scarce due to enemy bombings, Italian soldiers were discovered smuggling beans across the border into Ethiopia for their own brewing needs. This discovery set off a scramble among Ethiopian brewers to get their hands on some of the world's most prized bean stock. After the war, coffee production slowed as Ethiopia transitioned from an empire to a republic. However, interest inEthiopian coffees revived starting in the late 1980s when commodity prices rose and farmers could sell their crops at a higher price than they could produce at home. Today, artisanal coffee is enjoyed around the world and is still being produced with quality standards that ensure each cup has its unique flavor profile.

Salina, Kansas was founded in 1867 by the Salina people. The town grew quickly and became a major junction for wagon trains and travelers on the Santa Fe Trail. The town's first hotel was built in 1869. In 1907, Salina became the capital of the Kansas Territory. It remained that way until it was moved to Topeka in 1912. In 1934, Salina became an independent city and remains so today. The history of Salina began with its location on the Santa Fe Trail. When settlers arrived in what is now Salinas County, they were faced with great challenges because of the difficult terrain and lack of transportation options. The first recorded mention of this area can be found in a letter from Captain John Cushing to his wife written on October 17, 1851: "We are going to make our trial trip overland as soon as we can find a better place." In 1867, when Nebraska Territory was created, part of it included what is now Salina County. On November 9th that year, President Abraham Lincoln signed legislation creating Topeka as the new Territorial Capital under which all government activity would take place within Malecon Creek Valley south of Wichita Falls (later Wichita). This action set off a chain reaction that led to growth throughout the Territory; businesses opened up and people started moving into Topeka from all aroundKansas and Oklahoma Territory. The first hotel located in Salinas was built by J F Burcham in 1870-71 after he purchased land northeast of present day downtown Salina for $10 per acre ($140 per square mile). Over time more hotels were built including ones by A W Buschmann in 1903-05 (now known as Old Main Plaza), E L White & Bros., Harry Hinshaw & Sons Ltd., J P O'Donnell & Sons Ltd., G H Underwood & Bros., J F Burcham Incorporated (today's La Quinta Inn) and Rheingold Brewery Company Limited (today's Budweiser Kenmore Hotel). A number of other businesses such as grocery stores, livery stables, blacksmiths, cigar shops also opened up during this time period including those listed above plus others still mentioned today like Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., First National Bank Of America (now Wells Fargo), Armour Meat Market Incorporated (now Bob Evans Home Cooking Center), Western Union Telegraph Company (later AT&T Bell Laboratories), Kielbasa sausage company founded by George Kielbasa and later operated by his son Carl Kielbasa along with several other businesses before becoming defunct around 1978 or 1979 due to economic conditions at the time such Asbestos Poisoning scare which impacted many industries across eastern United States At one point there were over 100 salinas businesses active with most surviving until at least recent years thanks to efforts made local/regional organizations like The History Group LLC who continue to promote trade/commerce through education
