Parsons, Kansas is a small town in the US state of Kansas. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Parsons was founded in 1867 by John C. Parsons and his father-in-law, Jacob Wetzel. The town has been located on what is now the Hutchinson County side of Wichita since its founding and it became an independent municipality in 1902. In 1907, Wichita annexed Parsons to create a new city government which still governs the town today as a village-like entity with its own mayor and police department. Parsons is located at (39.735676,-95.090605). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.9 km²), all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,969 people, 653 households, and 479 families residing in the town. The population density was 95 people per square mile (41/km²). There were 712 housing units at an average density of 44 per square mile (17/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; <0% Pacific Islander; and 2% from two or more races
