The National Guard in Overland Park, Kansas has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. The earliest national guard unit in Overland Park was organized on November 1, 1867 as the "First Company of Kansas Volunteers." The company operated out of a building on 5th and Shields Streets. The National Guard Unit in Overland Park was originally called the "First Regiment of Missouri Volunteer Infantry." This unit became part of the 9th United States Infantry Regiment on September 17, 1875. On July 12, 1881, this regiment was redesignated as the "Third Regiment of Missouri Volunteer Infantry" and activated at Springfield Armory. The regiment served with distinction during the American Civil War and also fought in Mexico City during that war. After the war ended, the 3rd Missouri Volunteer Infantry returned home to Overland Park and resumed its original name on October 15,1881. In 1912, local entrepreneurs donated land for a military park northeast of town which would house an artillery range and storage facilities for weapons. The park is now known as Soldier's Field. It was here that Army Reserve Unit #1 (later #2) first convened on February 14, 1914 when mobilization began for World War I. On May 25, 1918 over 100 men from across central Kansas militia gathered at Soldier's Field to celebrate America's entry into World War I by singing patriotic songs and pledging their allegiance to America's new government. That same day President Woodrow Wilson announced that all male citizens over 21 years old were required to register with their country’s military forces or face draft service. After World War II ended there were several waves of recruiting among young people who had seen active duty in either Korea or Vietnam/the Cold War era . In 1970 there was another large influx as people registered for veteran benefits under Dole-Hawkins Amendments which created UI regiments throughout much of America includingOverland Park There are currently two companies (Company A & Company B) assigned permanently to District 2 headquartered in Topeka while other companies rotate through districts every few months providing security support within district boundaries

The history of the national guard can be traced back to the Revolutionary War. The Continental Congress had set up militias to keep the peace, and by 1775 they were quartered in different parts of America. One such regiment was that of General George Washington. In 1776, he was commissioned a lieutenant colonel in the Continental Army, and soon after led an attack on Saratoga Heights. He later became commander-in-chief of the army and served until his death in 1809. One reason why General Washington’s militia was so effective during the Revolution was because it consisted entirely of volunteers from within society. This is particularly true for units like Company D (also known as “The Alarm Clock Regiment”) which consisted only of men who wanted to fight for their countrymen. After the Revolution ended, many militiamen elected to become officers or join other military organizations. This included men such as George Washington himself, who became an officer under First Lady Martha Washington when she married him in 1784. When war broke out with France in 1798, President George Washington ordered all his militias into service immediately without any previous notice or training. Unfortunately for him, this decision went against much wisdom among his generals and caused many casualties among the inexperienced soldiers manning these formations. By 1800, only a fraction of America’s 1 million militiamen remained active at home; most were garrisoned along its shores or stationed abroad preparing for war with Spain). This lack of manpower also led to problems during wartime with supply shortages and long lines at checkpoints leading directly into enemy territory – sometimes resulting in entire villages being burned down by interruption of food supplies (the Battle of Saratoga)). Emblematic examples include John Adams’ refusal to order a march on Philadelphia despite knowing troop morale had collapsed due to lack of food); and Benjamin Franklin refusing orders from Congress specifically targeting Bostonians living near Charlestown because “a separate bodyguard could not be spared against possible fire from those quarters while our forces were assembling at Crown Point [Cleveland]”). In 1814-15 there was another large mobilization effort called Western Reserve Campaign which saw over 100 thousand troops drawn from throughout Ohio, Indiana and Michigan Territory; however this time no one involved realized just how important it would turn out to be when hostilities began two years later! Although small numbers eventually reached Canada during The War Of 1812, overall American military Output fell short due largely to technological advancements made by Napoleon Bonaparte that year

Overland Park, Kansas is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas and the county seat of Leavenworth County. The population was 97,721 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Overland Park and Shawnee City counties, about 25 miles (40 km) south-southwest of Wichita and 50 miles (80 km) southwest of Topeka. The first people to live in what is now Overland Park were Native Americans who lived near Mission San Juan Capistrano in what is now Santa Fe County. The area became part of Shawnee Territory after the Treaty of Fort Dodge was signed in 1804 between Britain and Tecumseh's band of Indians. In 1836, over 6,000 settlers arrived from Missouri via Jefferson County to claim land that had been claimed by both tribes. A schoolhouse was built in 1837 on a bluff overlooking present-day Topeka as the first permanent structure in Overland Park. The town site was surveyed by Major George Wyandotte and selected for settlement by him as part of his Rancho de las Animas purchase from Santa Fe Railway Company president James Chalmers in November 1839. Wyandotte named it Forney after himself and two other pioneers: James Fenton (1797–1852), an artilleryman with Captain David Denny's battalion during the War of 1812; and John Hennepin (1792–1855), a farmer from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania who had served with General Andrew Jackson's army at New Orleans during the American Civil War before returning home to become a business man and politician. In 1840, Wyandotte sold 1,500 acres (600 ha) around present-day Overland Park to John Sibley for $2 per acre ($10 per hectare). This land would eventually form much of downtown Overland Park including most of its current buildings; all but one were built between 1860 and 1870 when Onondaga Street became Main Street through merger with several other streets within Our Lady Of Angels Catholic Church complex on North First Avenue across from Central High School Renaissance Campus today since renamed Holy Cross Parish Homecoming Place where IHOP stands today! The town site included Purgatory Creek which bisected it east-west along Second Avenue north then turned east just pastpresent day Thalia Drive into Forney Creek which flows into Long Branch River just south side Hyatt Regency Hotel across street today also known as Hyatt Regency Onondaga Inn which once housed Sears & Roebuck department store until 1984 when it closed down & all that remains are foundations only! In 1850, residents voted to name their new town Overland Park after General Stephen Waco's headquarters at Fort Worth Texas during Indian Wars fighting against Mexico plus another general called William Hernández who surrendered at Palo Alto Siege on October 16th 1850 - this madeoverlanders 3rd Generals following Lee & Grant
