This gesture helped fuel America's drive into World War II because it gave USS Enterprise crewmembers access to gasoline that could not be obtained from local sources elsewhere on land or at sea due to government regulations restricting shipping traffic within certain areas near shorelines during wartime timeszones! The Ottawa, Kansas Naval Auxiliary Station (NAS) was established in 1944 as a result of the American-UK War Agreement. NAS was initially located on the Ottawa River and later moved to its current location on the north side of Wichita. The NAS served as a depot for USS Omaha (AO-10), USS Cairo (AGS-9), USS Denver (LHD-4), USS Sioux City (OSW-3), USS Quincy (CVA-14) and USNS Valley Forge (LHD-5). In 1951, NAS also became home to the first Maritime Training Service Squadron in the United States when it relocated from Norfolk, Virginia. The MTS squadron provided instruction to naval aviators and Sailors from Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Ottawa, Kansas is a small town in the Midwestern United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is located in Osage County. Ottawa is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1854 by George Fenton and his family as a farming village on the site of present-day Ottawa Junction. In 1865, Ottawa became a county seat of Osage County when it was organized from parts of Johnson and Stephens counties. The original courthouse building still stands, now used as a library and museum. By 1907, the population had grown to 1,500 and development began along the new Main Street with several stores, churches and schools built around it. In 1911, Ottawa became an independent city after being designated as such by an act of the Kansas Legislature; it remained so until 1959 when it merged into Wichita pursuant to an agreement between Mayor John Hargrave and Wichita Chamber of Commerce president Harry Moody. At that time, it had a population of over 20,000 people. He built a cabin near present-day Ottawa and called it "Wetheralls". In 1874 John Hargrave settled here with his family and named his farm "Hargrave's", after John Hargrave (1811-1884), an agriculturalist and politician from Massachusetts who served as U.S. Representative for Kansas' 2nd congressional district from 1865 to 1870 and as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1870 to 1872. In 1901 Ottawa had a population of 377 people; by 1910 it had grown to 712 people. The community experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to Wichita Arsenal where Manufacturing Division No. 8 American Military Works produced munitions for America's war effort. After the war ended, many jobs went away as technology advanced and employment shifted towards service industries such as health care or government agencies instead of manufacturing firms. However, there have been recent redevelopment efforts including a new school complex completed in 2009 which has brought much needed economic development to Ottawasville since then; this has helped keep the community active despite some decline over time including losing most if not all its businesses during tough economic times throughout 2007-2009
