The first order of business was to name the new organization after one of America's most famous patriots- George Washington. The name was changed to "The United States Air Forces in Europe" on July 1, 1948. On December 3rd, 1949, two F-86F aircraft were delivered to RAF Mildenhall in England as part of Operation Christmas Tree. These were followed by three more F-86Fs on February 5th and 6th, 1950. On this date General Curtis LeMay assumed command of The USAAF at Randolph AFB in Texas and ordered all remaining fighter planes into service immediately as part of his "Operation Twinkle Star." This order served as the foundation for American air dominance over Europe during the Cold War era. In 1955 Colonel James Eberhart became responsible for procurement and acquisition functions within Headquarters USAF. Under his direction The USAF developed a number of innovative aircraft programs which helped shape future strategy and doctrine including Project Mercury (the Mercury program), Tactical Air Command's Thunderchief missile system and Pathfinders flying over Korea duringOperation Neptune Spear I (the first successful delta wing jet strike against North Korea). colonel eberhart retired from active duty on October 30th, 2004

Newton, Kansas is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,836 at the 2010 census. Newton is located on the eastern edge of the Wichita metropolitan area and is part of the Wichita-Hutchinson Metropolitan Statistical Area. Newton was founded in 1854 by John A. Newton and his family from North Carolina. The town was named for Isaac Newton, an English scientist who had died in 1667. After moving to Newton in 1855, John A. Newton became one of the first settlers on what would become Wichita County. He served as justice of the peace and as a commissioner for Schleicher Township before dying in 1863 at the age of 82 years old. His wife Fannie also settled in Newton and played an important role in its development. In 1904, Mrs. Newton donated land to make up for a lack of water resources on their farm that were used to irrigate her corn fields; this land now forms part of Wichita State University's Hewlett-Packard Campus.. Newton has experienced various economic changes over its history including: agriculture (the mainstay of its economy until after World War II), manufacturing (the most recent era being during the early 21st century when Wright-Patterson Air Force Base made it accessible), and service businesses such as restaurants and medical clinics which have replaced agricultural production over time.. Today, Newton features many small businesses which are integral to its local economy due to their localized customer base and lack of competition from larger companies..
