The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History Museum in Merriam, Kansas preserves the history of Marines and their deployment gifts. The museum is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and admission is free. The first Marine unit to deploy was the 1st Battalion 11th Marines in World War II. They sent supplies and troops to Japan in 1945 as part of the United States occupation force. From 1948 until 1973, the Corps activated three infantry battalions each year for deployments in Southeast Asia and South America; however, these deployments were not combat-related. In 1978, the Marines designated their Infantry battalion as The 4th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) which deployed worldwide with US President Jimmy Carter’s Force ReconCommando squadronrons including elements of five different nations between 1978-1981 during his “Carter Crusade for Peace” tour of duty around the world. This MEU gave rise to future marine gift history with Operation significant results being that more than $1 billion was invested by businesses, governments, foundations and individuals through Operationsignificant results throughout twelve years resulting in over 2 million jobs created domestically and abroad! Since then, there have been several MEUs Deployments; most notably during Operation Iraqi Freedom where units such as The 3d Battalion 3rd Marines (HD), Company A 2nd Brigade Combat Team (2 CBT), Headquarters & Headquarters Squadron (HHS) - Light helped conduct operations across two countries while also providing support to various Special Operations Forces Units on multiple Murder missions! In 2013-2014 concurrent deployments occurred at Balad Air Base Syria with simultaneous operation “AQAP Strikeforce Redeployment” which successfully disrupted terrorist activities within Iraq while also supporting coalition counterinsurgency efforts against ISIL/ISIS militants! These are just a few examples illustrating how marines can become involved in many different types of deployments both combat and noncombatant support roles!!

Merriam, Kansas is a town in and the county seat of Atchison County, Kansas, United States. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Topeka–Santa Fe metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what became Merriam County was David Hennepin in 1847. In 1853, John Prentice purchased land east of present-day Merriam from James Irvine for $1,000. The village of Pomeroy was laid out in 1855 by Prentice and named after him. In 1861, residents of neighboring Leavenworth voted to secede from Kansas because they felt that their rights as citizens were not being respected by the state government. On November 15th of that year, Kansas General George Armstrong Custer's forces burned down the courthouse and other buildings near present-day Wichita while seeking refuge from Confederate forces under Ulysses S. Grant. This event is generally considered to be the start of the American Civil War. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C., leaving four months before his inauguration as president and setting off a chain reaction of civil unrest across America which would ultimately lead to World War II. As a direct result of Lincoln's assassination, many Americans traveled to Merriam for business reasons or tourism; this led to an increase in exports and job growth throughout Atchison County during the late 19th century due to increased trade between Great Britain and America thanks to Lincoln's Embargo Act (1865). After years of decline due largely to factors such as drought and loss of jobs within local industries throughout much of 1990s sitcom "The Simpsons", which aired on Fox until 2013,[9]Merriam beganto experience sustained economic prosperity beginning around 2000 with new development including several large theme parks adjacentto town center along with retail development totaling over $100 million since then[10][11]. In recent years Jerrod Carmody[12], head coach at Wichita State Shockers basketball team since 2008,[13] has brought professional baseball back into prominence with his team playing its first game post-merger against Beloit College on July 6th 2018.[14][15] Despite some challenges like most small towns experiences high levels poverty rates one analysis suggests that overall “community engagement” appears positive[16]

Merriam, Kansas is a town in Logan County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,993 at the 2010 census. It was originally settled by Mormons in 1857. It was named for Merriam College in Illinois. The town of Merriam was platted on September 12, 1867, by George Akerlund and Willard Richards as a hamlet within the limits of Logan County. On November 3, 1870, it became the first incorporated municipality in Logan County when it voted to secede from Newton Township. The original millinery store and post office were built near the present day intersection of US 83/Kansas Highway 24 and Main Street. The first school opened in 1870 under instruction from Mrs. Denton Goodall who had been teaching at her brother's home for two years before that time. On October 15, 1907, construction began on the Wichita Falls Central Railroad which would connect Wichita Falls with Council Bluffs and finally Topeka via Merriam to provide transportation for farmers heading into Dodge City or Kearney on the Oklahoma side of the state line. The town name change to Merriam on April 10th 1912 after its incorporation into Topeka city limits which coincided with changes taking place around Wichita Falls with similar names becoming popular throughout central Kansas as local businesses grew larger and more efficient thanks to railroad development (Topeka & Santa Fe Railway Company merges into Union Pacific Railroad). In 1957 Texas-born Brigham Young University president Heber Jenson purchased an interest in Waco Petroleum Corporation which he merged into UTEPs oil shale industry creating what would become known as Mesa Verde Oil Field; this company eventually led to mergers across numerous industries resulting in Mesa Verde being sold off to various investors including Anadarko Petroleum Corporation who currently operate it as an operating field development business known as Eagle Ford Shale.) As Wichita Falls’ largest municipally sponsored employer until 1970 (when merged into Topeka), MERRIAM played an important role not onlyin education but also governmental functions such as firefighting (1901-1911), highway maintenance (1920s-1950s) and law enforcement (1921-1972). Most notably however during World War II when many manufacturing jobs moved out of Wichita Falls due to military production requirements elsewhere; MERRIAM became one of several towns located along I–35W providing essential services such as food processing ramps for munitions plants; groceries for ammo storage sites; movie theaters; mechanics shops; barracks housing troops during World War II while still able to maintain its own general storefront without interruption service up until 1959 when all such services were consolidated inside newly constructed Topeka Memorial Mall.]
