In the early 1800s, coffee was a popular drink in Manhattan. Coffee beans were grown in Upper California and brought down to New York City for processing. After being roasted, the coffee was sold by street vendors and merchants. In 1827, John Jacob Astor founded the first coffee house in New York City with his son Jacob Astor. The coffee house became one of the most famous places in New York City for its high quality coffee. By 1830, John Jacob Astor had built two more floors on his building and began serving more than 2,000 people per day. In 1835, Nicholas Biddle founded the first paper mill in America at nearby Whitewater Mill; this mill processed coffee beans into paper products such as cash registers and checkbooks. The company continued to grow until it merged with another paper company in 1912. At its peak, American Coffee Associates operated over 20 mills across eight states producing over 350 million pounds of coffee each year. Even though high-quality coffee is no longer produced commercially today due to technological advancements, Manhattan saw a resurgence of interest between 2006 and 2014 when online roasters began offering their own versions of top-grade espresso from local farms

Manhattan, Kansas is a small town in the U.S. state of Kansas on the border of Nebraska and Texas. The population was 1,538 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Manhattan comes from Dutchman Hendrick Aalst's 1609 map of what would become Kansas Territory, which included present-day Manhattan and surrounding areas. The first settlers in this area were German immigrants who founded a log cabin community called "Hendrickson" in 1859. The post office at Manhattan was established in 1870, and until 1907 it served as the junction for mail routes between Wichita and Topeka. In 1907, the name was changed to Wichita after incorporation by city council into Wichita County,Kansas; however, it continued to serve as an incorporated town municipality until its annexation by Topeka in 1959. In 1961, when Topeka annexed Manhattan proper to make way for new city boundaries growth (), the existing downtown business district became unincorporated territory within Topeka again under its current name (). As a result of this annexation., all but one block (between Main Street and Girard Avenue) of downtown core remained unincorporated territory until 2004 when that blocks were reorganized into a public safety precinct known as "Downtown". All remaining blocks insideTopeka City Limits were annexed back into Manhattan including Broadwalk (now Westport Boulevard), Prospect Heights (now east Prospect Avenue), South Park (now south Park Boulevard), East Harlem (now east Harlem Boulevard) and Northbrook (now northbrook Blvd). The population has since grown sufficiently that much more than just Downtown is now within Municipal limits; most notably Midtown which encompasses most of University Place/Midtown Tower complex along with most of Central Plaza bounded by 26th Street to the north, Grandview Drive to the south and Walnut Street to the west; also included are several large housing developments such as: TechTown USA II - located off I-435 just south of 22nd street - home to Intel Corporation Headquarters; Highland Village - located on Main Street between Grandview Drive & Walnut Streets - contains some 3200 homes across 4 blocks; also home to many other multi-residential buildings such as Regency TowersSouthwest tower complex off 21st St.; Midtown Tower Complex off 6th Ave NW.; One World Trade Center Complex towering over Broadway between 25th St NW & 26th St NW

At first, espresso was only used as an expensive drink for high-class patrons. However, over time, espresso became a popular drink all over Europe and eventually North America too. The popularity of espresso spread from Europe to Asia during the 15th century and it wasn’t until 1670 that Dutch merchants ventured into Africa to find new markets for their beans. Coffee reached South America by way of Brazil in 1755 and soon after that it reached Spain where it attained a higher level of popularity than ever before. Coffee started being exported to other parts of the world starting in the 18th century but it wasn’t until 1875 that fresh roasted beans started being shipped directly from Arabia to Europe. Today, coffee continues to play an important role in human society both domestically and internationally and there is no doubt that this beverage will continue playing a big role into our future!

Manhattan, Kansas is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. It was founded in 1854 by families from Manhattan, New York City. The population was 706 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Manhattan was John Witherspoon. He and his family moved to the area in 1854 from nearby Wichita Falls. The first post office in the community was established on December 12, 1855; it was called "Wichita Falls." In 1861, during the American Civil War, a detachment of Union soldiers under General George Armstrong Custer attacked and burned down the home of Major James Auld near present-day downtown Manhattan. In July 1961, when Sedgwick County became part of Kansas after statehood, Manhattan's incorporation as a village went into effect. On November 6 of that year, the then-new Sedgwick County Courthouse Annex (now known as Main Street Historic District) opened inside the former Wichita Falls High School building on Main Street between First and Second Streets within the limits of both villages. Elected officials for Manhattan at this time were Mayor Alonzo Beazley (1961–1964), Boardman Township trustees Harry Watkins (1964–1970), Clyde Hennessey (1970–1978), Roy Laughlin (1978–1981), Artie Boyer (1981–1983), Kenneth Kappelmeyer (1983–1986), and Donnie Hamlin (1986). On October 1st 1986 an amendment to city charter made amendments to election laws for mayoral election only effective with a two-thirds vote by all residents living within corporate limits of both villages which failed to materialize because no such vote took place due to differences over who would run as mayor against incumbent Donnie Hamlin who had been elected unopposed on May 8th 1986. In 1990 an addition to Main Streethistoric district created when it merged with adjacent Stroudsburg Borough filled by parcels from neighboring townships when those municipalities were consolidated into Sedgwick County along with about 1/4 mile extending eastward from current Broadway Avenue northward to include more than half of current Garden Hills Cemetery while still including most or all of Brushy Creek Road east thereof also annexed forming what at that time was considered one large cemetery contiguous with other cemeteries within SedgwickCounty jurisdiction not yet subject to annexation proceedings currently being consummated resulting in Brushy Creek Road becoming municipal property line running southeast from Broadway Avenue thence northeasterly along said road past Garden Hills Cemetery boundary line continuing through said cemetery onto now US Highway 63 just south side thereof intersecting again short distance later at its junction with State Highway 160 just northeast side thereof making up total area annexation has since occurred occasioning some confusion but otherwise no problems having fully integrated Brushy creekRoad into municipality
Manhattan, Kansas was first settled in 1854 by James A. Watt and his wife Catharine. Watt worked on a farm near Manhattan until he moved to the area in 1857 and started a blacksmith shop. In 1861, when Kansas became a United States territory, Watt and others donated land to the new state of Kansas. The town of Manhattan was built on this land in 1868, and it served as the capital of the new state until 1865. In that year, Topeka became the state capital.
