For example, in 1978, when five RAF fighter jets crashed near Wichita Falls Municipal Airport after being diverted there for an air show commemorating National War Memorial Day festivities, the USAF donated three Cessna 172 planes and four hotel rooms to help with funeral costs for those lost that day. Additionally, since 9/11/2001 the USAF have offered free ride home from all member airports for military members who are deployed abroad or whose spouses are serving in uniform. This gesture is seen as another way that the USAF provides support to troops overseas while they are away from home

As one resident described it: "It doesn't matter if you're living on Main Street or Billionaire Boulevard – we all get along just fine."
