The Lenexa, Kansas National Guard was formed in 1959 and has been providing support to the local community since then. The unit has played a role in many events throughout the years, including the city's first Gay Pride parade and its current contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lenexa, Kansas is a small city in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Shawnee County. The city is located in the eastern portion of Shawnee County on the Missouri River and is bordered by Wabash to the east, Cowley to the south, Lenexa to the north, and Weimar to the west. The first white people in Lenexa were five men who came overland from Illinois in 1847. They named their town "Lenexa" after a place in Russia where they had been travelling. In 1868 settlers numbered 158 when they founded a post office here. The first school was built in 1870 and operated for one year before being closed due to financial difficulties. A new school was built here in 1875 and it served until 1915 when it burned down. A post office called "Lenexa" was established here on October 17, 1865, but it was discontinued on November 15th of that year because no mail could be sent from this location due to an Indian war campaign going on at that time. In 1872 two brothers – George Waddell and John Hanks – started a business selling flour from their farm near what is now downtown Lenexa through wagons pulled by horses or oxen across country via cattle drives during wheat harvest season which led to their nickname "The G-men". This business continued until 1902 when it moved out of state because of high prices for flour caused by wars with Mexico and Austria-Hungary (the so-called Black Wars). In 1907 Ignatius Donnelly arrived from Ireland with his family settling nearby on land he had purchased east of what is now downtown Lenexa along US 362 just upstream from today's Old Town Cemetery/Lenexa High School Site (now home of Lenox Community College). Donnelly set up a storefront grocery store next door to his house soon after arriving while working as a clerk at an local law firm where he met many other entrepreneurs who would later form the nucleus of what would become known as Wichita Business Corporation (WBC) which became Wichita State University's student housing authority beginning in 1935; WBC also played an important role in developing Wichita into one of America's leading cities during its early years as well as giving rise to some notable figures including Sam Houston Gates (founder and first president President & CEO Wichita State University), Julius Kleinrock (founder & CEO Wichita Business Corporation & future Mayor & City Councilman), Edwin Edwards (former Governor Of Oklahoma), Dick Cheney (former Vice President Of American West) & Bob Dole (Ulysses S Grant Presidential Advisor On Economic Development). Today there are more than 100 businesses operating within 1 mile radius of main downtown streets including several major retailers such as Macy's / Sears / JCPenney/, Kmart / Kohl's/, FedEx/ UPS/ USPS/, etc.. Some notable buildings located within walking distance or close by include: Main Street Methodist Church - currently used as offices for various public agencies such as ShawneeCountySheriffs Dept., ShawneeCounty Library District #1 - built 1906& remodeled 2009; White Sands Casino - opened 1974; Welch Elementary School - replaced 1927 single classroom building with three stories brick elementary school which still stands today; First Presbyterian Church - current structure dates back To 1889; Holy Cross Catholic Church - completed 1923 addition features multiple levelsOperates under separate ownership from primary church since 1978;; Paintshaft Hall library complex #1 - completed 2001 expansion includes new library tower& worship hallan addition area commencing 2002 includes restaurantLobby areas available for private functions inside& outside building during peak hours only

On July 15, 1861, when Confederate forces invaded America, the Guard was called into action and successfully defended our soil from enemy aggression. From its inception until today, the Guard has played an important role in American society – both at home and abroad. Today, the National Guard is one of the largest components of the U.S. military and provides critical support to regional commanders across America. In addition to its traditional roles in homeland defense and peacekeeping operations overseas, the Guardsmen play an integral role in many American social programs including education, healthcare and criminal justice reform. The Guard also enjoys widespread respect both within and outside of America – something that is especially evident during major events such as Memorial Day or Veterans Day ceremonies. So why did it take so long for national guard gift history to be recognized? There are a few reasons. First, there have been several inconsistent attempts at setting up a system that would recognize national guard gifts throughout history. Second, there has been no clear definition of what constitutes a national guard gift – which makes it difficult to identify specific examples or dates from when these items were purchased or given away by individuals/organizations specifically associated with The NationalGuard). Lenexa is a city in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was 6,895 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1867 by a group of European Americans led by Jacob Lenexa and named for the Limestone River which flowed through the town. The first settler in Lenexa was Nicholas Demarest who arrived on December 8, 1867. He and his family were among the original settlers of what is now Shawnee County. The Demarest family left Lenexa for Independence in 1868 when that state seceded from Kansas Territory. They also settled near Topeka. In 1869, George Waddell built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the Limestone River which became known as Waddell's Bluff. By 1870, there were 9 families residing in Lenexa with 273 acres (130 ha) of land surveyed and rented to them for $5 per acre ($ today). In July 1870, Isaac Allred bought 15 acres (6 ha) of land from John Sibley for $10 ($ today). Allred's farmstead grew rapidly due to his production of hay, straw and beans; he also raised chickens and cattle. He soon became known as "the man with the big checkbook." By 1880, Allred had purchased 100 acres (40 ha) of land adjacent to Waddell's Bluff which he used to raise corn, soybeans and other crops while also building two homes: one north of town on State Highway 17A (now US Highway 281), later known as Allred Road; and another south of town on State Highway 21 (now US Highway 281A). In 1882-1883 an effort was made by local farmers to get recognition from the United States government for their Agriculture Department soil survey results showing they had more corn than any other area in Kansas permitted under federal law. This resulted in passage by Congress of an act entitled "An Act To Award Lands For A Dryland Cotton Farm" which awarded 160 acres (50 ha) adjoining Allred Road to him for his dryland cotton farm operation situated within 10 miles (16 km) east thereofof public roads extending into both Shawnee Countyand Ottawa County.. When it opened its doors at 181 N Main Street on October 5th 1886 it employed eighty men exclusiveof women Workers engaged upon cotton farming operations yielding an average return upon investment over five years aggregating $2 million or about 36% after interest costs alone! The Ladies' Home Journal observed "It would be difficult enough even to understatement this sum... However nothing could exceed what we have heretofore seen at this hands." The First National Bank moved into its new building with much fanfare less than one year later on November 12th 1888 following reorganization caused by consolidate efforts resulting from various bankruptcies throughout centralKansas during that period including those affecting all banks westward from Topeka including Lenexa Merchants Bankruptcy Case No 2 case number L-2792.) . . . Mrs Gertrude Hanks gave her deposition regarding her role with First National Bank minutes followethat occasion ." On January 1st 1889 old Main Street bridge across Crystal Creek failed causing heavy flooding inside downtown where several businesses were destroyed including Griswold Mercantile Store & Grain Exchange - site now occupied by Weisbrodt Bakery
Lenexa, Kansas was founded by the Lenexa and Wichita Railroad in 1881. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the crossroads of two important railroad routes. In 1886, the town became a city.
