Lenexa was platted in 1881 and named for Augustus Lenox (1798-1884), an early settler and member of the Baptist church in that area who donated land to the town site. Lenexa is located at (36.566667, -95.523889). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census of 2000, there were 6,826 people, 2,972 households, and 1,935 families residing in the village.[1] The population density was 1,619 people per square mile (572/km²). There were 3,098 housing units at an average density of 568 per square mile (236/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98% White,[2] 0% African American,[3] 0% Native American,[4] and 0% Asian.[5] Hispanic or Latino residents made up 2% of the population.[6] There were 2,972 households out OFCOME with a population densityof 610 people per sq mi[7], making it one-seventh as dense as Wichita's 613People/sq mi[8]. Out OFCOME had almost exactly equal proportions male and female residents with both sexes living inside their OWN homes PLUS any family members accompanying them on work trips outside THEIR homes! In fact 95%+ individuals OWN their home which means no public assistance ever comes into this community!
