The Lenexa Army National Guard's deployment to Kuwait in 1990 was a turning point for the unit. Prior to that, the Lenexa Guardsmen had only served in support roles. The deployment changed all of that. The Kuwait deployment was an opportunity for the Guard to show its mettle and prove itself as a real military unit. The units quality of training and equipment improved significantly during the trip. Unit members became better equipped and trained with new weapons and technology. In 1992, the Guard returned to Kansas after two years deployed in Southwest Asia. This time, it was called upon to help enforce U.S.-Kuwaiti peace agreement terms as part of Operation Desert Storm. The mission was successful, but there were some high-profile fatalities among Lenexa Guardsmen while on duty - one of which remains still unsolved today. Since then, Lenexa has seen more deployments than any other city in KS thanks to our National Guard units stationed here at home or overseas on various missions including both 9/11 operations and relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina.

Lenexa, Kansas is a city in south-central Kansas, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita– Shawnee metropolitan area. Lenexa was founded in 1854 by John Lenexa and his family as a stagecoach stop on the Santa Fe Trail. In 1860, Lenexa became the county seat of Cowley County and grew quickly due to its location on the wagon road from Dodge City to Topeka. The railroad arrived in 1872, bringing jobs and development to Lenexa. In 1907, Lenexa became one of three cities in Wichita when that city annexed parts of Shawnee County. The downtown business district has been devastated by fires over the years; however, efforts are underway to revitalize it. A new park was constructed in 2013 adjacent to Chicago Park District's Midtown Centre mall which had been vacant for many years until that project began. Lenexa is home to several churches including First Baptist Church (1867), Presbyterian Church (1901), Christ Episcopal Cathedral (1973), Methodist Episcopal Chapel (1971), and Congregationalist Church (1974). There are also several small businesses located throughout the downtown core as well as numerous cultural attractions such as The Children's Museum of Kansas City and Bluegrassland Arts & Crafts Museum.

Lenexa is a city in the US state of Kansas, located on the Missouri River. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 97,641. The city was founded in 1854 by Capt. John Lenexa and his wife Margaret as a trading post on the river between Dodge City and Topeka. Lenexa was named after Captain John Lenexa (1785-1831), an officer of the French frigate "L'Orient" which arrived at this location with American forces during the Mexican-American War. At first, Lenexa relied primarily upon fur trade for its income; however, cotton became more prominent in Lenexa's economy through its growing importance as a result of development around Wichita Falls to the south and Fort Leavenworth to the north. Beginning in 1871, construction began on what would become Wichita State University; this would later become one of America's largest universities with over 60,000 students enrolled by 1920. In 1907, Wichita State University inaugurated its first football program under head coach Amos Alonzo Staggs; since then, WSU has won ten conference championships and been crowned national champions five times. With present day downtown areas such as Main Street/Kansas Avenue (renowned for its variety of restaurants and nightlife), The Park (home to several professional teams including MLS's Kansas City Wizards) and Loews Midtown all taking shape during that time period - Lenexa is easily one of Wichita's most significant cultural attractions today.
