By 1870, there were over 200 people living in LeawOOD, making it one of the largest towns in Kansas at that time. In 1907, Argyle became part of the newly created Johnson County when it was organized from parts of Topeka and Wichita counties. At this time, Topeka was much larger than Johnson County and had a population greater than 1,000 residents; Argyle therefore became an insignificant village withinJohnsonCounty limits.
