Since the early days of the Kansas Army National Guard, there have been various ways in which members and families have donated items to the guard. From military equipment and supplies to flowers and candy, these donations have helped make the Leawood community a part of the guard's culture and history. The first donation made to the army by a Leawood family was an artillery piece from World War I. The rifle was given in memory of their father, who had served in that conflict. Over time, other family members or friends would contribute items such as radios or tents to help support our military forces. Today, we continue this tradition with annual donations that help support our troops on both active duty and reserve duty around the country. Leawood is a city in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 24,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. Leawood is located on the eastern edge of Johnson County and borders Wichita to the south and east, Topeka to the north and west, and Emporia to the northwest. The town was organized in 1867 when Lawrence County was created from parts of Johnson, Douglas, and Wyandotte counties. The name "Leawood" was chosen because it sounded like "lawrence." The first post office in Leawood was established in 1868. In 1872 a cotton gin was built by J.D. Payne and Wm Ewart; it became known as George Wiggin's Gin until 1900 when it became owned by Pabst Brewing Company of Kansas City, Missouri. In 1907 Leawood had a population of 30 people; it grew to over 100 people by 1912 due to development around its cotton ginnery (now called simply Payne's). In 1916 an oil refineries were built along Main Street; they remain active today as Mid-Continent Energy Services Co., Inc.. In 1922 an interurban line connecting Topeka with Wichita ran through Leawwood; this line closed following World War II but has been restored several times since then. In 1957 three local boys founded their own business: Blue Ribbon Broadcasting Company which served Assemblage Radio Networks throughout Central Kansas before going off air in 1993; KWTX-TV which aired classic rock up until 2003 before becoming Fox affiliate KSNT-TV; and most notably Wichita based WBFF-TV which began airing local newscasts in 1998 before becoming ABC affiliate KSNT-TV full time in 2003. With all these businesses came high school students who would go onto join their businesses one day or another – many eventually finding success on national networks such as NBC Nightly News or FOX Business Report after leaving Leawood for college or other careers outside of broadcasting…..

Leawood, Kansas is a small town in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was 596 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1871 by Captain James P. Leawood and his wife Anna. It is named after the Battle of Leavenworth in 1854, during the American Civil War. The town was originally built on the east side of Topeka River where it joins with the Shawnee River. In 1870, Captain James P. Leawood donated land to make up what is now the eastern edge of Leawood. In 1881,Captain James P. Leawood's son-in-law erected a one story school building on lot No 116 in what is now downtown Leawood. That year also saw the first post office opened inLeawOOD with Elisha Wigglesworth as mail carrier In 1886, two brothers bought lots adjacent to each other and formed a partnership to build a store on Main Street which became known as "the depot." That same year saw the first automobile driven onto Main Street when John Kelling purchased an horse-drawn buggy for use as a delivery vehicle In 1903, Captain Charles Sibley donated land north of downtown for city hall and social services buildings; these are still standing today LeawOOD also played host to America's FIRST car show/sale (1904)
