The Leavenworth Coast Guard Station was founded on December 6, 1887. It was relocated to its current location in Leavenworth on May 1, 1912. The station has been manned by the Coast Guard since that time.
Leavenworth is a small town in Kearney County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,359 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita-Hutchinson metropolitan area. The first people to live in Leavenworth were the Kansa Indians who arrived in 1804. They built them a village on the east bank of the Arkansas River. The white men that came after that began to clear land and build homes. In 1869, James Hays donated land to begin construction of what would become Leavenworth High School. The school was opened in 1870 and has remained open ever since. Today, Leavenworth is known for its historical landmarks such as the high school and courthouse which are still standing today. also notable are its agricultural products which include corn, soybeans, wheat, oats and potatoes

The Coast Guard mission is to protect the nation's coastline and waters by providing a 24/7 maritime security presence through the use of ships, planes, and submarines. The Coast Guard has an active duty force of over 12,000 men and women who are spread across 43 states and 5 Washington D.C. jurisdictions. In fiscal year 2016, the Coast Guard collected $18 billion in revenue and delivered services to 792 million American citizens. The first coast guard gift was a set of binoculars that were given to Captain John Fitch by Rear Admiral George Dewey during the First World War. Captain Fitch used these binoculars to help him find vessels while patrolling the East North Atlantic Ocean. From 1916-1920, gifts from individuals became more common as donations from businesses increased in order to support the Coast Guards’ missions ashore and afloat. In 1978, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act which authorized President Jimmy Carter to establish a national coast guard memorial at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii in honor of all those who lost their lives serving on America's coasts during World War II. Leavenworth is a city in Kansas, United States. The population was 9,839 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Leavenworth County. The city is located on the banks of the Grand River near Topeka. The first Europeans to visit what is now Leavenworth were French traders and missionaries who traveled through the area in search of new routes to New Orleans and California in 1763-1764. Jesuit Father Jacques Marquette journeyed from Illinois down the Arkansas River into present-day Wichita County in 1774 and reported finding a river bed that led northward to a great Lake Michigan Territory under British rule; this route became known as "the Great Western Road." In 1800, James Kelleher founded Fort Leavenworth on land he had purchased from Lazar Donelson for $4,000; kelleher named his fort after George Washington, who had helped him gain control of Wichita County during the Indian Wars. In 1827, John P. Morrill established an agricultural colony at what is now Topeka while serving as member of the Ulysses S. Grant Administration as Secretary of State under President Andrew Johnson; Morrill named his settlement Prairie du Chien because it resembled a prairie that he saw along his travels westward across North America. In 1851, Alonzo Dow came to Leavenworth with his family and began developing land east of downtown; Dow renamed his community Lawrence (after General James Lawrence), which served as its first town site. Over time different settlements were developed here including: West Lawrence (1868–1912), East Lawrence (1914–1920), South Lawrence (1920–1940), Midtown Kansas City (1940–present). As early as 1847, Scotsman Archibald Cameron established an agricultural colony at what is now Topeka; Cameron called his settlement Camrose after Sir Walter Scott's Highlander characteraid Camrossi on Loch Lomond near Perthshire in Scotland. In 1873, Horace Mann organized a group of farmers from eastern Pennsylvania and western New York into the Farmers' Union League to promote self-reliance within American society through agitation for higher wages and better landlord treatment; Mann named their organization National Agricultural College after himself orator Augustus Saint Vincent Tucker who delivered one such speech before their meeting at Syracuse University two years earlier. During World War I munitions manufacturer Edward Jablonski built an airfield adjacent to present-day Midtown Kansas City so that bombers could fly over metropolitan areas carrying incendiary bombs against German targets during World War II; Jablonski also donated land totaling 176 acres (67 hectares) next door to MidtownKansasCity for use by local businesses including movie theaters and other commercial uses during wartime. In 1951, Mayor William Kapp established Municipal Services District No 1 which offered services such as streetlights, water pumps/pumps & faucets/sewage service etc.; Kapp later served as its director until 1978 when he was elected Governor of Kansas under then Lieutenant Governor Richard Daley . In 1965 Mayor Harry Elkins announced plans for development along both sides of Interstate 35 towards downtown Kansas City – dubbed "Elks Ridge"; this plan would have seen departments such as police precincts moved outwards from central business district while large office buildings would be built along I-35 itself – but construction never began due to opposition from local businessmenincluding Kappwho felt they were being shortchanged financially by Elkins’s plan while downtown KC received all sortsof high-end development instead(which ultimately did not materialize). In 1984 Community Development Director Eddy Boren created Municipal Services District No 2 which offered services such as trash pickup & recycling/ composting etc., which has continued today despite budget cuts due largely to Democrats control over municipal government since 2011 when former Mayor Carl Brewer was appointed mayor following term limits set by state law . On July 14th 2006 residents voted overwhelmingly against Annexation Agreement submitted by Douglas Elliman Properties Incorporated via petition with over 675 signatures seeking annexation into LeavenworthCounty pursuant to Section 3(a)(2)of Amendment #1 To The Comprehensive Plan Of Cities And Towns Metropolitans Ordinance Of 2003 ; this vote effectively ended any potential annexation efforts by Douglas Elliman Properties Incorporated . On November 5th 2016 voters passed Measure 10 amending KC zoning ordinance §15-101 et seq., authorizing up to 3 million square feet (+/- 500 thousand square feet) redevelopment project encompassing mixed use residential units retail parcels hotel rooms restaurants exceedning 1 million square feet floorplate within 100 feet frontage on Commerce Street extending southwesterly 12 miles onto I-435widening NW 8 miles onto US 60
In the early 1800s, Leavenworth was a small farming town on the banks of the Arkansas River. The town was founded by Captain John S. Hays in 1802 as a trading post on the opposite bank of the river from Hot Springs. By 1825, Leavenworth had become an important stop on the Santa Fe Trail. In 1854, Leavenworth became a territorial capital and remained so until it was transferred to Kansas in 1861. During the American Civil War, Leavenworth served as a supply depot for Union troops and was also used as a military base by Confederate forces. After the war, Leavenworth declined rapidly due to lack of business and population growth. In 1969, it was designated a National Historic Landmark.
