During that time period, Leavenworth AFB played a significant role in supporting both NATO and US military forces abroad. Today, Leavenworth AFB is home to four main wings: the 9th Bomb Wing (Strategic Airlift Command), 10th Fighter Wing (Air Combat Command), 11th Airlift Wing (Airlines of America), and 12th Space Wing (Space & Missile Systems Center). These wings offer numerous services such as aerial refueling, marital support, disaster relief/response capabilities, joint task forces/operations and many others. The El Dorado C-130A was donated by General Electric Aviation and flew to RAF Bovingdon in England for a two-week deployment as part of the Operation Paperclip program. The aircraft served as an evaluation and training platform for American pilots and technology experts during Project Skylab.
Leavenworth is a small town in Kansas, United States. The population was 3,362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Leavenworth County. The name "Leavenworth" comes from the word "leaven," meaning to thicken or make rise; and "ware," meaning place or spot. The history of Leavenworth goes back to 1838 when James Haldane founded what would become Leavenworth County. In 1854, Confederate General Jubal Early passed through this area on his way to Gettysburg, and stopped at Leavenworth for lunch. This event is documented in a local legend which says that Early's horse got sick and he had to rest for lunch outside the town's limits. In 1872, the city of Topeka was incorporated as the capital of Kansas Territory; however, it did not gain city status until 1907 when it became an official part of Leavenworth County. In 1912, Topeka merged with Hutchinson to form Wichita Falls; however, this merger did not take effect until 1978 because Topeka had more residents than Hutchinson. The current courthouse was built in 1915 by architects George Bancroft and John Nolen as part of a downtown redevelopment project which also included the first store building in Wichita Falls (later known as Mid-America Shopping Center). From 1925-1927, Averell Harriman served as its first governor; he later served as Ulysses S Grant's ambassador to Russia during World War II and then became one of America's leading real estate developers. The Harriman family continue to own much of Wichita Falls' property today including several blocks north of Main Street where they have commissioned acclaimed architect Frank Gehry to design a mixed use development called One City Plaza which will include office space, residential units and a hotel/residence hall/conference center on top of an existing shopping mall complex. On February 8th 2019 Forbes listed Levenworth among their ""Forty Under 50"" fastest growing counties while also noting that there has been an increase in college students searching for housing around here since Trump took office

The USAF can be traced back to World War I when American aviators offered support for the war effort by dropping food and munitions on German troops. After the war, Congress authorized the USAAF as a separate branch of military service in 1921. In 1947, the United States established itself as a nuclear power and decided to arm its own forces with nuclear weapons. This changed everything and led to America’s involvement in multiple wars across different continents since then including Afghanistan and Iraq. Since 9/11 there have been numerous deployments around the world, both inside and outside of America’s borders. However, one of the most recent deployments was to Niger where American soldiers are working with local troops in order to fight terrorism. This deployment is part of Operation Inherent Resolve which includes military engagements in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen as well as operations in Africa supplying humanitarian assistance through Operation African Progress.
In 1951, the USAF deployed a gift for the United Kingdom in celebration of its 50th anniversary as an independent country. It was a Royal Air Force ensign that had been donated by the United States to be flown into RAF Herefordshire. The aircraft was brought over on 23 May and presented to the UK air force by US Ambassador James Fenton.
Leavenworth was a small town in east-central Kansas, United States. It is now part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The town was founded by Levi Leavenworth in 1854 as a trading post on the Santa Fe Trail. In 1865, it became the capital of Kansas. Leavenworth was renamed to its present name in 1881 after General John A. Browning, who served as governor of Kansas from 1881 to 1886 and as military governor of India from 1888 to 1893. The town had a population of 10,000 in 1890; it peaked at 25,000 in 1920 and declined thereafter. Leavenworth has since regained some of its former population and economic importance through education and industry. The local economy depends largely on agriculture and meat production; other industries have included manufacturing (shoe manufacturing) and paper production (the first printing press in the United States was located here). There are several museums located within or around Leavenworth, including one dedicated to early American history and another celebrating artistry related toKansas society during the period from 1800 to 1910.
