However, recent efforts have seen some revitalization such as a new library and new businesses being opened up in recent years. In 1857, the Lansing land grant was given to John A. Snyder. In 1865, he donated the present city of Lansing to the state of Kansas. The town was named after Lansing, Michigan, which was then a territory of Canada. In 1907, the city limits were enlarged when Euclid Avenue and State Street were added to it. On January 1, 1912, Lansing became an incorporated municipality with a population of 54 people.
