Lansing, Kansas is a small town in the U.S. state of Kansas that is home to the University of Central Missouri and Lansing Community College. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. He built a cabin near present-day Lansing and named it after his brother-in-law, James Purdy who had also moved there from Illinois. Hogg served as its president from 1880 to 1886, when he resigned to become territorial governor of Kansas Territory under President Benjamin Harrison. When Territorial Governor Samuel Tilden made an unsuccessful attempt to annex part of Shawnee County to Kansas Territory during his second term (1887–90), Hogg donated land east of present day State Route 207 (now US Highway 60) for a college station known as Central Missouri University which would later evolve into Lansing Community College; this donation remains one of central Michigan's mostitems recognition local history
